Angels Mike Trout Needs Knee Surgery; Not Expected to Miss Entire Season

Not the kind of news the Los Angeles Angels and their fans want to hear. Their number one guy is dealing with an injury that will take him from the game for a bit; and is serious enough that he will require treatment that involves going under the knife. Yes, it has been confirmed that the Angels Mike Trout needs knee surgery.

On Tuesday the Angel’s GM, Perry Minasian, made the official announcement. However, this may still come as a shock to some fans. During Monday’s game there didn’t seem to be a play that Trout seemed to injure himself during. In fact, this season he has been quite dominant.

Trout at this point in the season is leading the entire league in terms of home runs. He has 10 so far in 2024. Although, Baltimore’s Henderson just caught up and Atlanta’s Ozuna is only a couple behind. Nonetheless, the fact remains that Mike made it to ten first and is having a good season; despite the Angels not performing as well as they wished.

Still during Monday’s game, Mike begins to feel “soreness” somewhere around the third inning. This is what prompted the MRI on Tuesday. The MRI reveals a tear. Which has led to the final diagnosis and outcome. Surgery.

Nevertheless, with the season really heating up and a clear divide finally beginning to show between winning teams and struggling teams. The Angels losing Trout is a major blow coming at a bad time. However, the team may not be without Trout all season. Mike is dealing with a torn meniscus and could only be missing in action from 8-12 weeks. CBS Sports reports:

“According to the Baseball Prospectus injury recovery database, a torn meniscus typically comes with a 2-3 month absence. That puts Trout on track to return sometime in July or August if all goes accordingly.”

However, the Angels are not putting any pressure on their superstar. They want him to heal and get back to 100 percent strength. Without causing complications. ESPN states,

“The procedure, which is believed to be scheduled for Friday, isn’t considered to be season ending. There is no timetable for Trout’s return.

‘It’s just frustrating, but we’ll get through it,’ an emotional Trout said in the clubhouse.”

Trout is one of the most exciting players in baseball. And a great man, on and off the diamond. We hope he feels better soon and heals up fast.
