Talent can get you in the door; but hard work and intelligence will keep you where you wish to be. One of the WNBA’s brightest stars is spreading her wings and dipping into team ownership territory. This is an area many athletes have gone into including: Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Grant Hill, Candace Parker, Sue Bird, and Tom Brady. Now, the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese is joining the DC Power Football Club ownership group to help enhance and grow women’s sports in a brand new way.

Investing in sports is big business. While athletes do make money due to their sports contracts and brand sponsorship deals. Most who go the Ownership route often increase their wealth by numbers larger than when they played their actual sport of choice.

Nevertheless, adding former and current athletes to ownership groups is extremely smart. They bring their fandoms to the table, plus expertise. They know what it takes to really win and succeed. Thus, making their decisions not just calculated guesses; but outcomes resulting from real life experiences.

Furthermore, Jason Levien, who is the D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman is happy to have Reese onboard. He states,

“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking. As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.”

Moreover, Angel is also excited to be a part of women’s soccer as well. Via social media platform X, she says,

“So grateful & blessed for this new ownership! Looking forward to creating new opportunities for women in professional soccer. I’ve always had the desire to invest in a local team as a Maryland native!”

The football club also released an online statement regarding Angel joining the ownership team. It reads:

“DC Power Football Club (Power FC), the Washington, DC-based professional women’s soccer team in the United Soccer League (USL) Super League, have announced Angel Reese as the first member of their ownership group. The basketball star and WNBA standout will join the Power FC ownership group set to kick off Super League’s inaugural season in August 2024. Power FC announced their team crest, the appointment of Jordan Stuart as the first club president, and the hiring of Frédéric Brillant as the first head coach on May 20.

Motivated by her passion for empowering female athletes, Reese brings her unwavering dedication to Power FC and the Super League. Hailing from Randallstown, Maryland, Reese has deep roots in the local community and is passionate about growing the women’s game and creating new pathways for aspiring professional athletes.

‘I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,’ said Angel Reese, Power FC owner. ‘We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.’

Nice. Women’s hoops stars are definitely having a great year. Cameron Brink with her New Balance family. Caitlin Clark breaking records with her jersey sales as well as historic Nike deal. And now Angel Reese moving into more investment opportunities. Times are definitely changing and it is wonderful to see these ladies changing the game; both on and off the court.
