Sue Bird Joins The Seattle Storm Ownership Group

Sue Bird Joins The Seattle Storm Ownership Group!

Who better to invest in women’s sports; than a woman? Especially, someone who has definitely been there and successfully done that. Therefore, how wonderful is it that four time champion and 13 time All Star Sue Bird joins the Seattle Storm ownership group.

Bird is adding her name to a long line of former professional athletes who are now owning pieces of sports franchises. Think Magic Johnson, Grant Hill, and Michael Jordan. Even Tom Brady is throwing his hat into the mix by seeking to gain part ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders. Nonetheless, speaking of Jordan and the others, team ownership is one of the investment opportunities that helped make them their insane fortune. Therefore, it is easy to see why in retirement, many players see this as a good way to stay involved in sports AND add to their bank accounts.

Nonetheless, Sue Bird joining up with the Seattle Storm just makes a ton of sense. She is very familiar with the organization. Having spent her entire 20 season WNBA career there. Therefore, you will not find someone as passionate about seeing the Storm continue to grow and be a dominant force in the league.

Thanks to the talents of Bird and her teammates throughout the years, the Seattle Storm has become one of the most successful franchises in the WNBA. Winning four Championships and making 18 playoff appearances in 24 seasons.

Furthermore, the Storm are very happy to have Bird on board. Seattle Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel mentions,

“We are thrilled to welcome Sue into the ownership group after a storied career on the court. Her knowledge of the game and the league, her ever-expanding business acumen, and her dedication to the Storm organization, make her a superb addition to the ownership group.”

However, what about Sue Bird, how is she feeling about being apart of ownership? Let’s just say she is a wee bit excited. After the news officially broke, Bird states,

“As a player, I poured my heart into every game for the Seattle Storm, and now, as part of the ownership group, I am thrilled to continue contributing to the growth of the game. Investing in women’s sports isn’t just about passion; it’s smart business. It’s about recognizing the immense talent, dedication, and market potential our league has always had. Force 10 Hoops and the Storm have been at the forefront of this for decades. Together, we’re not just shaping the future of basketball, but also paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive society.”

Nice. Congratulations to Bird, and this once again highlights that women and sports is in the midst of transformation. Tickets are selling, viewership numbers going up; players getting bigger endorsements and now getting into ownership. The future is very bright.
