2026 Stanley Cup Final Preview—Team Statistics and Fun Facts
The Canes and Golden Knights took different paths to get to the Stanley Cup Final. Who will continue their winning ways into the championship series? Well, we’ll take a closer look at both teams and their respective players in our 2026 Stanley Cup Final Preview. The Finals will begin Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, Sportsnet, TVA Sports and CBC.
First of all being at home or on the road won’t make much of a difference for either side. Actually being on the road may be the better option. The Golden Knights and Canes both won multiple road games in the Conference Finals as away teams continued their advantage in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This postseason road teams went 5-4 during the Conference Finals and are 40-36 this postseason. This is the third time in four years that at least 40 of the first 76 playoff games were won by the visitors (also 43 in 2023 and 42 in 2024).
Additionally, the Hurricanes became the fourth team in NHL history to win each of their first five overtime contests in a postseason. They also became the seventh club with a road winning streak of six-plus games to start a playoff year.
Furthermore, the Hurricanes are the first team to enter the Stanley Cup Final with one or fewer losses since the Oilers in 1983. That team started 11-1 before getting swept by the Islanders in the Cup Final. Carolina has allowed 22.3 shots per game this postseason, the 3rd-fewest by a team entering the Stanley Cup Final since shots on goal were first tracked in 1959-60. The only teams to allow fewer – the 2001 Devils and 1995 Red Wings – both lost in the Stanley Cup Final. The Canes hope to change the history books.
More Canes and Hockey History to Be Made
One of their players hope to have a historic impact as well. You can basically call Aho “Mr. Consistent.” Sebastian Aho will compete in his first Stanley Cup Final after showcasing consistency over seven previous postseasons to lead all playoff scoring categories in Canes history. His team can always count on him being efficient and effective on the ice.
In fact, Sebastian Aho can become the fifth player in NHL history to register 10-plus points in eight consecutive postseasons at any point in their career. He would join Wayne Gretzky (11 from 1981-91), Mark Messier 10 from 1983-92), Brad Marchand (8 from 2018-25) and Bernie Geoffrion (8 from 1953-60).
Over on the Las Vegas end of things, Mitch Marner (7-14—21) enters the Stanley Cup Final with a three-point lead over Golden Knights teammate Jack Eichel (2-16—18) and can earn the first championship of his 10-season career. Mitch Marner can become the fourth player in the modern era (since 1944) to lead the playotts in points in his first season with a franchise. He would join Ryan O’Reilly (2019 w/STL), Frank Mahovlich (1971 w/ MTL) and Bill Goldsworthy (1968 w/ MNS).

Moreover, as a team Las Vegas proved that when they go down, never count them out. They can comeback and make you pay. For instance, the Golden Knights’ three-goal comeback win during Game 3 of the Western Conference Final marked the fifth straight postseason to feature multiple three-goal rallies to win. 43% of games in these playoffs have been comeback wins, the second-highest rate at this stage in 16 years behind only the 2024 postseason (49% of 76 GP).
So then, both teams have what it takes. It will just depend on who fights a bit more to edge out their opponent. We will soon find out beginning on Tuesday.
