Women’s Pro Baseball League Holds Tryouts-600+ Players Attended
You can’t have a league if you don’t have players. To fix this situation, the WPBL put out the call and female athletes proudly answered. Yes, the Women’s Pro Baseball League held tryouts this month which helped to provide plenty of opportunities as well as talent for future team construction.
Over 600 players from over ten different countries participated in the League’s recently conducted summer tryouts at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. These many hopefuls will soon be whittled down to a more manageable size. We are told that only the top 100 players from the tryouts will advance to the WPBL’s future draft.
While we were not able to ascertain an exact date and time for the WPBL’s draft. We were able to squeeze out a month. The draft will be held in November (2025). Therefore, we are just days away.
Nevertheless, headlining the WPBL’s tryouts were global women’s baseball superstars Mo’ne Davis and Kelsie Whitmore. In addition, sports icon, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, and Honorary Chair of the WPBL Advisory Board, Maybelle Blair, threw out the first pitch at the tryouts.
Mo’ne Davis is a name that no doubt rings a bell for baseball enthusiasts. To refresh your sports memory; Davis made headlines in 2014 as the first girl to pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series. Her groundbreaking performance at age 13 made her a global icon and the first Little League player featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. So then, if Davis makes a team it will be real fun watching her compete at long last as an adult in a pro league for women.

The Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) is the only professional women’s baseball league in the United States. The League will launch four teams in the spring of 2026 and feature a regular-season, playoffs and championship. The WPBL’s historic summer tryouts took place in August at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., with top players earning eligibility for the WPBL Draft next month.
The league is already attracting eyes and partners. No doubt, a very good sign for success. Earlier this year, the WPBL announced a strategic partnership with Fremantle, one of the world’s leading entertainment companies.
