What is the Highest Scoring NBA Game

What is the Highest Scoring NBA Game? And the ONE Game That Came Close!

It is one of the most insane things to ever experience LIVE! Back and forth, overtime after overtime. With the numbers seeming to double and triple in seconds. One day your grandchildren will ask what is the highest scoring nba game in history; and you will tilt your head back and tell the tale on how the Kings and Clippers came close to the 1983 record some 40 years later!

1983? Yep, that is not a typo. You literally have to go all the way back to the decade of excess in order to learn of the NBA’s highest scoring game.

In December of that very year, the Detroit Pistons found themselves battling it out with the Denver Nuggets on the 13th. The game was long! We are talking full on game AND three overtimes long. Each team needed endurance and stamina to just keep at it.

However, in the end, the Pistons came out as the victors. Finishing off the Denver Nuggets with a 186-184 win. The game was close, so it’s not like it wound up being a beat down in the end. Yet, there could only be one team in the winner’s circle that night and it was the Nuggets.

Most fascinating is that the record still stands till this day. Nevertheless, two teams came super close to breaking it in our modern era. The Clippers and the Kings. And it was a wild ride!

What is the Highest Scoring NBA Game? And the ONE Game That Came Close!

Yes, some four decades later NBA fans find themselves in another all out fight. This time between the Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings. The night is already crazy because Russell Westbrook is no longer on the Lakers, but playing for LA Clippers.

By the time it is all said and done Westbrook finishes with 17 points, 14 assists and 5 rebounds. However, it is not enough. Malik Monk sends the game to OT and things continue to snowball into double overtime!

Nonetheless, despite Russell’s debut the Clippers fell to the Kings. In a very tough one point loss! The Kings pull it out 175-176. Ouch.

In the end history still is made. The books will forever show that Kings and Clippers gave NBA fans a game to excitedly talk about and discuss. Just check the following stats below.

Sacramento Kings Versus Los Angeles Clippers

  • 2nd Highest Scoring Game in NBA History
  • 2nd Time in History Both Teams Scored 170+ Points
  • Tied most 3PM in a game in all NBA History

Insane. Just like in 1983. Will it take another almost 40 years before we see this happen again? Only time shall tell!
