Seattle Storm’s Nika Muhl Will Miss Second-Straight WNBA Season After Tearing Right ACL
Unfortunately, for this great player, she just can’t seem to catch a break and déjà vu is coming in hard. Former Husky and Seattle Storm’s Nika Muhl will miss her second-straight WNBA season after tearing her right ACL in March’s FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers. In October 2024, she also tore her left ACL during her first game in EuroLeague.
This is a tough, tough injury to come back from. For a lot of athletes the recovery time is long and extensive. With UC Health acknowledging that, “An ACL tear recovery time is generally eight to nine months.”
Nevertheless, on Thursday morning the Seattle Storm provided an update on Muhl’s condition and there was a ring of positivity to it. The organization declared, “Nika Mühl underwent a successful surgery on March 31 to repair a right ACL tear and will miss the 2026 WNBA Season. Nika, we are with you and wishing you strength and healing as you recover.”
The official Seattle Storm website also posted a brief statement regarding Nika Muhl’s injury and recovery status. Once again confirming when as well as where exactly her injury occurred. The messaging was very similar to the various team social media posts seen on Instagram, Threads and X. Nonetheless, it reads as follows:
“Seattle Storm point guard, Nika Mühl, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee during a game on March 11, 2026, while playing for Croatia in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers. Mühl underwent successful surgery on March 31, 2026 to repair the ligament and will miss the 2026 WNBA Season. She is taking steps towards a healthy recovery and updates on her progress and return to play will be made public when available.”

The Seattle Storm is set to open the 2026 season presented by Symetra on Friday, May 8, hosting the Golden State Valkyries. After the home opener, the Storm will hit the road for three games. Visiting the Connecticut Sun on May 10, the Toronto Tempo on May 13 and finishing against the Indiana Fever on May 17.
Additionally, the Storm will play 22 away games across nine road trips this season. Including a five-game stretch from July 6 – July 17 that begins in Los Angeles and ends in Indiana. Which should be a fun ending matchup and great opportunity for basketball fans to also see Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark in action. The team’s longest homestand spans four games from May 20-27. Will be a fun time and a fun season to behold. However, we wish Muhl a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the court sooner than later.
