San Diego Padres Snap a Five Game Losing Streak Winning Game 3 Against Phillies

Game 2 of this series must of felt like PTSD for the Friar Faithful. The game ended eerily reminiscent of the 2022 playoffs with Robert Suarez facing off against Philadelphia. The 2022 and 2024 versions played out the same. SD lost. However, America’s Finest City got a little redemption today, as the San Diego Padres snap a five game losing streak winning game 3 against the Phillies.

The game started off a little scary with knuckleballer Matt Waldron on the mound. He loaded the bases, but emerged victorious. Working himself out of a very difficult and dangerous bind.

Waldron’s effective pitching and impressive calmness; has been extremely valuable to the Padres this season. Especially, with them having to navigate multiple injuries in their starting rotation. The dynamic Yu Darvish has been out but will start pitching games in a rehab assignment; and Joe Musgrove has also been missing in action.

Therefore, Waldron’s skills has been able to thrive in the spotlight. Furthermore, many players like the Marlin’s Jazz Chisholm Jr have lamented this year how difficult it is to figure out exactly where Waldron’s signature pitch shall land. And it’s this ability that kept the Phillies from scoring tons of runs in the finale of the series against San Diego.

Jackson Merrill got the good times rolling with a solo home run. And a few innings later with Merrill and catcher Higgy on base, Luis Arraez knocks in Jackson Merrill to put another run on the board for San Diego. However, in the eighth inning the Padres really come to life.

With two men on base, Kim is able to reach base due to a mistake by Alec Bohm. Bases are loaded. And guess who is the hero? The growing Padres legend himself… KYLE HIGASHIOKA.

Kyle was a late game savior for the Padres against the Oakland Athletics. Hitting a walk-off home run. The first of his career.

Higgy comes through again this afternoon, hitting a three-run double to center field. Allowing Azocar, Machado and Kim to run home. Padres win the game 5-2.

Next up for the Padres? A four game series at home against the Milwaukee Brewers. Then they will finish up the month of June with matchups against the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox.
