Nikola Jokić Wins 3rd NBA MVP Award
The NBA announced today that the reigning NBA champion Denver Nugget‘s star Nikola Jokić has won the Most Valuable Player award for the 2023-2024 season. It’s his 3rd MVP award in the last 4 seasons. Jokić may be the most valuable player of the 2020’s when his legendary career is finally complete since he is one of only nine players in NBA history to win the MVP award at least 3 times.
He joins these legends in the 3 time MVP club:

Wilt Chamberlain (1960, 66-68)
Kareem-Abdul Jabbar (1971, 72, 74, 76, 77, 80)

Fun fact: do you recall the new name for the MVP award? Come on take a guess; you’ll probably get it. It’s also known as the Michael Jordan Trophy. A golden statue now presented to each year’s recipients.
Back in December of 2022, the NBA unveiled a new series of trophies for its individual award winners, including the newly christened “Michael Jordan Trophy” honoring the league’s MVP. Thus, the MVP honor has been renamed and rebranded.
However, we digress. Let’s get back to the man of the hour, the legend that is Nikola Jovic. He continues to show and demonstrate year after year that he is one of the best in the league.
For instance, one testament to how dominant Jokić has been; is that the only season of his dominant 4 year run so far that he hasn’t won MVP was last season. When he still finished second in the MVP voting, to Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, yet won the NBA championship instead.
Jokić’s response to winning the MVP? Nikola responds to the press’ inquiries stating: “I liked last year more when I didn’t win and won a championship much better.”
Therefore, while accolades are cool. It is clear that Jovic rather win titles. That is the attitude of a true professional and champion.

As one can see, the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (a favorite to win the MVP); comes in second. While the very talented Luka Doncic of the Mavericks comes in at third.
