They played each other in the World Series back in 2024. Now these two ball clubs will once again share something in common. They are both heading to the postseason. On Monday, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers clinch 2026 playoff berths.

The Dodgers clinch a postseason berth for the 14th straight season, the longest active streak and tying the Braves (1991-2005) for the longest streak in MLB history. The Dodgers magic number to clinch a first-round bye and avoid the Wild Card round is 9. Their magic number to clinch the NL West Division for the 24th time in the franchise’s history is 3. They got the job done with 4-1 victory over the Reds behind Tarik Skubal’s 7 shutout innings.

LA has been in full control of their destiny as they continue their quest to become a dynasty. Winning not one, not two; but three consecutive championships. Leading their division for most of the season and amassing over 90 wins. With an opportunity to have another 100-win season if the blue men win nine out of their remaining twelve games.

And in the opinion of manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers are not even as scary as they plan to be during the postseason. During his toast speech after the Dodgers clinch a 14th consecutive Postseason berth; Roberts said:

We’re not even close to playing the baseball that we’re going to play. To be where we’re at right now with 12 games left, that says a lot about us.”

New York has also made history by punching their ticket to the postseason. The Yankees have now clinched a Postseason spot for the 9th time in the last 10 seasons. For almost a full decade they have been a constant in October. Moreover, this is their third consecutive season that they are heading to the playoffs.

And they clinched in style. With their newly returned Captain showing why he’s their Big Man. Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer during a six-run eighth inning. The Yankees went on to beat the Twins 8-3 on Monday night, and clinch their 61st postseason berth.

With their postseason ticket punched, the Yankees know they face an “uphill” battle when it comes to winning the AL East. With the Yankees playoffs-clinching win, the Tampa Bay Rays AL East lead is cut to 3 1/2 games, and their magic number to clinch the AL East remains at 10.
