New York Mets Eliminate Phillies and Are Heading to 2024 NLCS
All hail the mighty GRIMACE! Or at least Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. The NLDS matchup between Philadelphia and New York has been a heart pounding, roller coaster of emotions series. However, in the end, it is always the Mets. After four grueling games, the New York Mets eliminate the Phillies and are now heading to the 2024 NLCS.
It has been a very historic week. For the first time in Major League Baseball, every series in the ALDS and NLDS ended up being tied up, 1-1. This shows that the gap is narrowing. Teams often deemed as being “better” are being seriously challenged and put to the test.
The playing field is leveling out. And this is great for the sport of baseball. It means more meaningful games as well as matchups with more entertainment value. Fans are getting their money’s worth whether they are attending in person or watching from their devices. A win- win.
Nevertheless, the Mets have looked unstoppable for some time now. They got off to a very sluggish start during the regular season. But as things progressed came through the ranks like a Miley Cyrus wrecking ball. And now during the postseason they still look just as strong and resilient.
Case in point, Wednesday’s game four. The Phillies drew first blood in the fourth inning. Bryce Harper was able to score on a Mark Vientos’ fielding error in order to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead over Mets. Unfortunately, for Phillies fans that’s the only action they would see from their team. Philadelphia would hold onto the lead for just about two innings.

In the sixth, New York would do all their damage. Bases would load and then Mets hero Francisco Lindor would come to the plate. Lindor smashes Philly’s hopes and dreams with a GRAND SLAM. And that would be enough to secure the win. Mets come away as the victors, winning 4-1.
Now New York advances. They have a chance to do what some believed they had no shot at doing at the beginning of the season; win a pennant and head to the World Series. On Friday they will find out who they will face after the Dodgers and Padres duke it out in an all or nothing Game 5.
