Las Vegas Raiders Seeking $158 Million in Funding to Renovate Allegiant Stadium
When they were relocated to the new city, a new stadium was built for them. It included state-of-the-art equipment, pedestrian and event decks and transportation enhancements. The stadium was even granted the hosting privileges for Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. Nevertheless, the Las Vegas Raiders are seeking $158 million in funding to renovate Allegiant Stadium. The project that would create a new “front door” to the stadium’s north entrance. Upgrades would include a pedestrian deck, public plaza, event deck and transportation improvements.
Also, many fans walk over a nearby bridge from the Las Vegas Strip to attend Raiders games and other events. The new entry would create a more direct path to the venue by remaining on an elevated walkway.
Right now, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority is considering and will likely approve the $158 million upgrade to the north entrance. $75 million will come from a taxpayer fund allocated specifically for Allegiant Stadium-related improvements. And the rest from the Las Vegas Raiders. The Stadium Authority held a meeting on Thursday, but no action was taken. However, a vote could occur Sept. 2.
As Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, explained Stadium Authority owns the stadium, the Raiders are responsible for its upkeep. However, he further added: “We want to make sure the stadium remains a world-class venue,” Hill said. “We want to make sure Allegiant Stadium is well-funded from both a private standpoint as well as a public standpoint.”
Once construction is approved, the updates will not likely happen until after the Raiders’ season ends with the goal of it being completed in late 2028 or sometime before the 2029 Super Bowl at Allegiant.
“Those are not aspirational goals,” Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan told the Stadium Authority. “They’re based on some educated conversations that our tech and design teams have had.”

So, in spite of Allegiant being one of the newest stadiums in the NFL they are still seeking to make it better. Which is a good thing because it’s a very busy stadium. In addition to being the home of the Raiders, it is also the home to UNLV football, major sporting events and concerts. And it hosted three Pac-12 Championship Games (2021-23).
Here’s to hoping the renovations will help the Raiders to play better. In the last four years they have had new head coach/quarterback combos. Unfortunately, head coach Klint Kubiak has yet to determine who will be their starting quarterback, rookie Fernando Mendoza or veteran Kirk Cousins. Last night, Mendoza got a preseason win of 22-20 over the Houston Texans. At any rate, fans will likely approve the better access to the stadium.
