Jordan Brand Releases Air Jordan 39 in Time for Paris Olympics; MJ Heavily Involved

In the market for some new kicks? Well, you may be happy to know what has been cooking down the sneakers pipeline. Jordan Brand releases the Air Jordan 39 right in time for the Paris Olympics and MJ himself couldn’t be prouder.

The legendary Hall of Famer put a lot of work, effort and thought in this latest design. Yes, he always gives plenty of insight and input into each shoe created. However, Michael Jordan really wanted to stretch his team and what was technologically possible.

Joël Greenspan, Global Footwear Design Lead at Jordan Brand discussed Michael’s innovative approach as well as a few of the design elements and details. Greenspan reveals,

“[Michael Jordan], as the signature athlete, was very much the center of this shoe. From concepts to the physicality of it, the performance that we needed to achieve for specific reasons, down to showing him sketches, renderings, building prototypes — every part of the way; he was very much involved.

He has checked in on projects throughout the past, but he’s never been this involved in my recent experience. His challenge to us was, first and foremost, [that the Air Jordan 39] has to be about the use on the court — it has to perform incredibly well; better than anything. Pinnacle performance was his statement to us — do not make any compromises.

Our approach was to pick a move that we felt embodied the creativity and competence that he had narrowed down to one fluid move — a move that we could see that our contemporary players also doing that they learned from him; [and build from there.]

[ZoomX] is the highest performing foam that exists. It has the highest energy return and the lowest energy loss. It costs quite a bit, and it’s tough to resource, so we have to allocate it appropriately and only pinnacle products can get access to it at the moment, both from a price point perspective and a resource allocation perspective.”

Now at the outset we did say the Air Jordan 39 has a connection to this year’s Summer Games in Paris, France. Beginning this month (July); the Air Jordan 39 will debut the “Sol” colorway, French for “foundation.” Moreover, this particular sneaker has ties back to the number 9, so then the Air Jordan 39 and will also be released in 9 colorways.

Now if the number 9 is ringing a bell it us because Jordan wore a number 9 jersey with Team USA. Hello Dream Team. Therefore, in line with the global sporting event; the brand will seek to capitalize on the Paris Olympics to elevate this flagship model on the world’s biggest stage.

But how much will the Air39 snatch out your bank account? The Air Jordan 39 currently retails for $200 and will be available via Nike.com as well as select retailers.
