Did Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson Ever Meet and Play Basketball Together?
Did Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson ever meet and play basketball together? The short answer to both of those questions is “yes.” These two superstars came together and blessed us with a pop culture moment that the masses have yet to forget. It occurred back in the 90s when both of these icons were at the height of their careers.
The two Michaels, the greatest MJ’s got together on the set of a music video. The meeting between the two legends took place on the video set for “Jam.” This was the fourth single or song off of Jackson’s 8x multi-platinum album Dangerous.
Furthermore, this was early in the 90’s decade. 1992 to be exact. And Jordan was HIM. In 1992, Michael Jordan won MVP and led the league in usage rate at 31.67%. And according to StatMuse: Michael Jordan averaged 32.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 78 games in 1992-93. He was selected to play in his ninth All-Star games. He won his third Finals MVP award and his third NBA championship.
And this is also the man that had sold basically 4 million Air Jordan shoes back in 1985. By the end of 1985, Jordan Brand had made Nike more than $100 million dollars. And the partnership is still extremely lucrative till this day.
Michael Jackson was on fire as well. Writer Lee Vowell researched Jackson’s album sales in the 80’s and 90’s and this is what he discovered. He writes:
“Michael Jackson’s first album of the 1980s changed music. Thriller was released on November 30th, 1982 and produced seven singles. In fact, only two tracks on the record weren’t released as singles. Thriller sold 70 million albums worldwide, including 34 million in the United States alone.
Jackson only released one other studio LP in the 1980s. The second was Bad which came out on August 31st, 1987. While Bad did not have the success that Thriller did – honestly, what could have? – Bad still sold 35 million copies worldwide. The album produced nine singles, including “Dirty Diana,” “Man in the Mirror,” and “Smooth Criminal.” Along with all the extended singles from Thriller and Bad, Jackson sold more albums in the 1980s than any other artist in any other decade, other than the Beatles in the 1960s. Jackson was also hugely successful in the 1990s as he sold 78,755,000 more records.”

So then, the “Jam” music video truly brought together two of the most successful men in music and sports. The video famously shows both Mikes shooting hoops and joking around doing Jackson’s signature moves. But that still leaves the question… did Jordan and the King of Pop REALLY play a game of basketball together?
Yes, they did. When it comes to allegations, they Beat It (sorry we had to lol). Even when the cameras were not rolling these two were hooping. As IMDB proudly continues to herald, “Behind the scenes, Jackson and Jordan played a real game of basketball, despite Jackson being six inches shorter than Jordan. Jordan won.”
