It’s always fun to think about possible face-offs. Like Tyson vs Ali. Magic vs Lebron. Babe Ruth vs Ohtani. Or Barry Bonds vs Satchel Paige. Well, the latter is the exact matchup The Captain had in mind. On air, former Yankee Derek Jeter asked Barry Bonds how he’d do going against Satchel Paige. The legendary pitcher who played in the Negro League as well as Major League Baseball.
While Bonds’ answer was simple. If a little tourney could truly play out, the result may not be as simplistic. Both men are truly one of the greatest to ever do it. One is a total monster on the mound and the other is a vicious annihilator of baseballs. A hurler versus a batting terror. So who wins?

Satchel was a righty pitcher and begin playing in the 20’s (yes the 1920’s); and his career spanned over parts of four decades. He also became the first African-American to pitch in the World Series, coming out of the bullpen in Game 5, and his team won the championship in six games. Moreover, there is even proof that he pitched when he was almost 60 years old! Yes, at the at the ripe young age of 59, Paige started a game for the Kansas City Athletics and pitched three scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox.
Now for this next stat, we are going to quote directly from the MLB. It blows our minds each time. Regarding Satchel Paige and records available on him; he has,
“More than 2,500 games pitched and roughly 2,000 victories, 250 or so shutouts, a personal-best of 22 strikeouts in a game, 50 no-hitters, [and] a 21-game winning streak.”

Well, Bonds believes he has the answer. When asked about the face-off… he simply refers to what would happen to the ball if Paige pitched to him, Bonds yells, “GONE!”
Sounds like to us, Barry is confident he wins that matchup. Well, we’re taught to bet on ourselves and Bonds is the epitome of that. He’s a very confident, talented guy. Which is probably one of the numerous reasons he was so good.
