Back-To-Back Super Bowl Winners

Back-to-Back Super Bowl Winners – Every Team That Got It Done!

In the NFL, there is hardly any case of dominance, proven by the fact that it is rare to see teams becoming repeat champions. Out of the 58 Super Bowl match-ups, only eight teams were back-to-back Super Bowl winners. Fortunate enough to have won the Lombardi Trophy in consecutive seasons, which makes this honor even more special.

NFL Franchises with Consecutive Super Bowl Titles

Green Bay Packers

Lombardi and his Green Bay Packers became the first back-to-back champs, ensuring their place in history.

In the winter of 1967, led by Lombardi and quarterback Bart Starr, the Green Bay Packers won the first-ever Super Bowl. In this historical game, the NFL winners lined up against the AFL champion, Kansas City Chiefs. After a year, they maintained their winning streak by defeating the AFC champion Oakland Raiders.

Miami Dolphins (Super Bowl VII and VIII)

In January 1973, exactly a year after the defeat by the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl VI, the Dolphins, coached by Don Shula, completed the sole perfect season in NFL history by defeating the Washington Football Team. They were unstoppable the following year, too, as they secured a win against the Minnesota Vikings.

Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowl IX and X)

The Steelers, whose performance was predominantly driven by quarterback Terry Bradshaw, won their first Super Bowl in 1975 when they upstaged the Minnesota Vikings. They continued their supremacy by putting together consecutive titles in the 1976 with a win against the Dallas Cowboys. However, they went on to achieve greater heights.

Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowl XIII and XIV)

Only three seasons after their previous back-to-back championships, the Steelers restored their glory, beating the Cowboys in 1979 and then the Los Angeles Rams in 1980.

San Francisco 49ers – Super Bowl XXIII & XXIV

The San Francisco 49ers were unbeatable in the 1980s. They piled up four Super Bowls in nine years, holding the Lombardi trophy high in 1982 and 1985 and then bouncing back to take two more in 1989 and 1990.

They got past the Cincinnati Bengals to win their third Super Bowl title. And in the next season, they showed their superiority by thrashing the Denver Broncos. They finished off the decade with two successive titles.

Dallas Cowboys (Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII)

Starting in the 1990s, the Dallas Cowboys became a formidable force, led by Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin, who lifted the franchise to the pinnacle of success, winning three Super Bowls in four seasons. The Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XXVII by overpowering the Buffalo Bills at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In Super Bowl XXVIII, held in Atlanta the following year, Dallas again met Buffalo, beating them 30-13.

Denver Broncos (Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII)

In Super Bowl XXXII, the Denver Broncos overpowered the Green Bay Packers 31-24 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Terrell Davis, who dashed for 157 yards and scored three touchdowns, took home the MVP title. The following year, in Super Bowl XXXIII, staged at Pro Player Stadium in Miami, the Broncos prevailed again, this time against the Atlanta Falcons, winning 34-19.

New England Patriots (Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX)

In 2004, the Patriots secured their Super Bowl XXVIII victory by overcoming the Carolina Panthers. They followed that up the next year with their third franchise championship, Super Bowl XXXIX.  Defeating the Philadelphia Eagles and cementing their dynasty.

Kansas City Chiefs (Super Bowl LVII and LVIII)

In Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 to lift the Lombardi trophy. The following year, the Chiefs barely defeated the San Francisco 49ers in an overtime win by 25-22.

No team has won three consecutive championships since the Super Bowl was founded. Nevertheless, the Packers achieved a remarkable feat by winning the NFL championship in 1966 and the first two Super Bowls.
