Angels Mike Trout Out for Rest of Season With Another Knee Tear
Definitely not the news any Major League Baseball fan wishes see. This Halos superstar is one of the most incredible and exciting players in the game when he can stay healthy. Unfortunately, 2024 is proving to be another injury prone season. On Thursday it is revealed that the Angels Mike Trout will be out for the rest of the season with another knee tear.
Therefore, yet an unexpected turn of events. It had looked like Trout was well on his way to returning back to playing. Earlier in the year he had had surgery (on May 3) in order to repair a knee injury (a torn meniscus). The surgery had been successful and Mike had begun a rehab assignment on July 24. However, that particular assignment was halted and put on pause on Tuesday due to what the Angels termed a “setback.” Further evaluation and an MRI revealed the tear. Trout was injured yet again.

This is a tough break for Angels fans, but extremely hard on Trout as well. Mike took to social media to address his fans about this latest incident and injury. He states,
“Since my initial surgery on May 3rd to repair my meniscus, my rehabilitation proved longer and more difficult than anticipated. After months of hard work, I was devastated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again – ending my hopes of returning this season.
Playing and competing is a huge part of my life. This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans. I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger.
I will continue to help my team and teammates from the dugout as we press forward into the second half of the season. Thank you for your support.”
Trout is 32 years old but before injury had been very good. He had amassed 10 home runs and an .867 OPS over his first 29 games this season. But so far the concern is can he stay well over 162 games. Trout hasn’t played more than 119 games in any of the past five seasons because of various injuries.
And the Angels are paying him a pretty penny. To the tune of over $37 million this year, halfway through his 12-year, $426.5 million contract. So then, with such an investment, the Halos want to be careful with Mike.
Which is why probably there’s no timeframe for Trout’s return just yet. All Angels general manager Perry Minasian said of Trout, “We’re going to shut down his rehab in general. He’s going to get reevaluated. He still doesn’t feel good, so we’ll see where that goes.”
