Angel Reese First Rookie in WNBA History to Record 7 Straight Double-Doubles

Angel Reese First Rookie in WNBA History to Record 7 Straight Double-Doubles!

Angel Reese is having a very good season so far. While the Chicago Sky continues to iron out various problem areas; the process has not stopped Reese from staying focused on her craft and growing as a professional ball player. Thanks to all of her hard work and efforts, Angel Reese is now the first rookie in WNBA history to record 7 straight double-doubles.

Angel could barely contain her joy on the court after today’s win over the Wings (72-83); and coming to the realization of what had just occurred. HISTORY.

Angel Reese passes Tina Charles and Cindy Brown for most consecutive games with a double-double by a WNBA rookie. Therefore, what basketball fans just got a chance to witness is the longest streak by a rookie, and the 3rd longest single-season streak in WNBA history. Nice.

Nonetheless, Angel Reese’s record-breaking performance today for the Chicago Sky went a little something like this:

16 PTS (7-13 FG)
18 REB (career-high)
8 OFF REB
3 AST
2 STL
ONLY rookie to ever record 7 consecutive double-doubles

This is why the 2024 rookie class is so different. This is why the league is growing. You have a talented group of young ladies like Rickea Jackson, Caitlin Clark, Cameron Brink (who also was selected to play on the 3×3 roster for the Paris Olympics, but will most likely miss out due to injury); and Kate Martin. Players making waves despite it being their first year.

They all knew it would be a tough transition. Going from college to the WNBA. However, they are all still showing how the W will be in great hands and entertaining for years to come.

Moreover, this isn’t the first time this season that Reese has been a “first.” She is also the first rookie player from her draft class with 100 points and 100 rebounds. And she did it with lightening speed. She is the fastest WNBA player to record 100 rebounds since Breanna Stewart (2016).

Breanna Stewart is two-time WNBA champion and MVP. So then, Angel finds herself in some very good company. However, Angel is not allowing any initial success to cloud her thinking. She understands that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. She tells ESPN,

“I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”

Great mindset. And proper attitude towards the game. We look forward to seeing how the rest of the 2024 WNBA season plays out.
