Dallas Cowboys Exercise the 5th Year Option on Micah Parsons’ Contract

Finally a little sign of life coming out of the Cowboys camp. The original thought was that Dallas would be all in on acquiring and keeping talent; however, not much of anything has gone down. Yet, on the eve of the NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys exercise the 5th Year Option on Micah Parsons’ contract.

So then, Parsons will not walk. Breathe a sigh of relief Dallas fans. Yet, the lack of moves this off-season does raise some questions.

Jon Machota of The Athletic provides a brief inside look into what’s going on within the organization. Some have felt that Jones is moving a tad slow in the deals and contracts arena. There are a few guys that are coming up on needing decisions made; to extend, or not.

However, it’s for a reason. Machota reports on this and the Micah Parsons option news; he reveals,

“Why don’t the Cowboys have new deals done with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb?

Jerry Jones: ‘We’d like to see some more leaves fall…I want to see a few more cards played. If you got trouble with when the timing is around here, it’s because I’m not ready to go.

If you decide to have a key player and you pay him to that extent, then he’s going to have less supporting cast around. Look around. That’s the way it works. That’s the way it’s been working in the NFL.

We have known that you were going to basically have to have less in order to have some of the players that we want to have at the prices they are. You got to have less supporting cast. There’s no getting around it.

Dak (Prescott) has enjoyed some of the best supporting casts that you could put around him.

To move forward, we will have to diminish that. That’s a fact. That’s the rules. That’s our challenge and to make it work out.’

SOURCE: The Cowboys have picked up the fifth-year option on Micah Parsons’ rookie contract. He is entering the fourth-year of the deal. The fifth-year would pay him $21.3 million. The Cowboys are hopeful that they will be able to sign Parsons to a long-term deal.”

Well, sounds like some good and some not as good news. The Cowboys have a strong desire to keep Parsons. However, by keeping some players with mega contracts; may affect how the rest of the team is put together.

Nevertheless, Dallas does have talent. Elite talent. Plenty of pieces to work with and build around. Hopefully, with the draft some ‘pieces’ will fall into place.
