MLB Opens Investigation Into Shohei Ohtani Interpreter Gambling Allegations
A lot of fans have been calling for it, and now they are going to get it. Major League Baseball finally breaks its silence in regards to the recent developments surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ superstar. Around 6 pm eastern time on Friday, the MLB opens an investigation into the Shohei Ohtani interpreter gambling allegations.
Therefore, it is now official. The MLB will look into all the facts in order to get to the bottom of what really happened and transpired. Merely days ago, Ohtani’s longtime friend and interpreter Ippei Mizuhari was suddenly fired. Initially, the story was that Shohei was just being a good friend and bailed out Ippei; loaning him millions in order to cover his gambling debts. Yet, then hours later, the story changes. To one not involving transactions to cover a massive debt; but to one involving theft.
Major League Baseball wants to ensure everyone that they are not oblivious to the Feds involvement, media scrutiny and the tough task ahead of how to sort through years of information and recent events. In a statement, the MLB states,
“Major League Baseball has been gathering information since we learned about the allegations involving Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhari from the news media. Earlier today, our Department of Investigations (DOI) began their formal process investigating the matter.”

ESPN baseball reporter Alden Gonzalez additionally provided some further details and insights. He mentions,
“MLB announced that “earlier today” their department of investigations “began their formal process investigating the matter” involving Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhari. [The] MLB is expected to request interviews with Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara, but there’s no guarantee they’ll get to.
My understanding is that — unless something dramatic happens — Shohei Ohtani will remain on the Dodgers’ active roster and will continue to play while MLB’s investigation unfolds. Administrative leave only applies to the domestic-violence policy. There are other courses of action, but the fact Ohtani himself hasn’t been accused of gambling, and that there’s no evidence any party gambled on baseball, probably helps him under MLB’s scope at this point.”
Interesting. We are sure as the investigation continues more information will come to light. Which will help to finish putting all the pieces together with this ever-changing story; and allow all parties to be handled in a fair manner. However, we hope that it will not detract from the new season; so that one and all can enjoy America’s favorite pastime.
