Yankees-Giants Open 2026 MLB Season Exclusively on Netflix

We are officially less than 10 days away from a new season commencing. 30 teams will compete with one goal in mind, to be this year’s champion. However, the start of baseball will be a little bit different. The league has “cut the cord” for its first prime-time matchup; opting for a streaming platform for the first time in history. The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants  are set to open the 2026 MLB season exclusively on Netflix.

Commentators for the game will be headlined by all-time greats Albert Pujols and CC Sabathia. Additionally, the broadcast is anchored by MLB Network’s Matt Vasgersian as play-by-play lead; and Emmy Award-winning host Elle Duncan as desk host.

From 2026 to 2028, Netflix will kick off each MLB season with a single game on Opening Night, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, plus an additional special event game each year. MLB Network’s Emmy Award–winning production team will produce Opening Night, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, and MLB at Field of Dreams in partnership with Netflix’s production team.

This move makes baseball highly accessible to fans and enthusiasts. Julia Stoll for Statista revealed in January of 2026 that,

Netflix remains the undisputed champion and blueprint of online video streaming in the United States. After more than two decades of unparalleled growth across its most lucrative market, around two-thirds of Americans nowadays watch Netflix content on a weekly basis.”

With that many American households having the Netflix service, the Yankees and Giants game will be easy to find and easy to watch. In a world and era where sports have become more and more spread out across multiple networks and platforms. It’s a nice change of pace for a game to at least be broadcast and streamed on an entity that many already have and utilize.

Netflix released the following statement about the 2026 MLB Season Opener,

“Batter up! The first pitch of Major League Baseball’s 2026 season will stream live on Netflix, bringing baseball fans closer to the game than ever before.

While MLB Opening Day is considered a national holiday of sorts, Netflix will start the party early with an iconic New York Yankees versus San Francisco Giants primetime matchup the evening before.

The Yankees — led by superstar outfielder and Northern California native Aaron Judge — will begin the season in San Francisco, to face three-time All-Star Rafael Devers and the Giants on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Opening Night marks the premiere of Netflix’s live baseball coverage in partnership with Major League Baseball with additional marquee events planned throughout the 2026 season, including the T-Mobile Home Run Derby and the MLB at Field of Dreams game for the 2026 season.”

Netflix also wants fans to truly feel like they’re at the game. As part of Netflix’s Major League Baseball debut, fans from around the world are invited to join the broadcast for a special version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Participants can submit their own renditions of the baseball anthem, traditionally performed during the 7th-inning stretch.

The final compilation will bring together a diverse group of voices to represent the global reach of the sport. Plus, celebrate the start of a new baseball season ahead. Deadline for submissions is March 20. So start buying some peanuts and Cracker Jack!
