MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL HAS RETURNED! After weeks and months of offseason drought, baseball fans can unite at long last to enjoy action at the park. Unfortunately, last night, the thrills were basically one-sided. The New York Yankees absolutely dominated the San Francisco Giants in a 7-0 MLB opening night victory which was also the inaugural Netflix broadcast game.

Wednesday evening’s game served as the official 2026 season kickoff, featuring celebrity commentators like Barry Bonds and Albert Pujols. And it also marked the first time a MLB season opener was exclusively carried by the streaming service. Additionally, as part of a new partnership, this kickoff matchup is only a piece of a larger 2026 baseball package for Netflix; which includes exclusive rights to the Home Run Derby in July and a “Field of Dreams” game in August.

Nevertheless, in last night’s matchup, all of the scoring occurred before the game could even hit the sixth inning. In the top of the second, Giancarlo Stanton singles to right center field and then Jazz Chislom was hit by a pitch. José Caballero then singles to shallow left field, advancing Jazz Chisholm to third and allowing Giancarlo Stanton to score. It’s now 1-0.

Then, New York really busts it wide open.
Ryan McMahon singles to center field. José Caballero scores. Jazz Chisholm scores. Making it 3-0.

Next, Austin Wells gets in the mix singling to center field while moving Ryan McMahon to second. The batting party continues as Trent Grisham triples to deep right center field. Austin Wells scores. Ryan McMahon scores. Scoreboard now reads 5-0.

Three innings later the Yankees would score a couple more runs. Thanks to some hits by Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice, Giancarlo Stanton, Jazz Chisholm and a throwing error by Willy Adames; the final score becomes 7-0.

San Francisco never found a rhythm. And the team almost made some wild history. In the seventh inning the Giants were shutout and only had two hits. The last time this occurred in the franchise’s history was 100 years ago, back in 1926. However, newcomer and former San Diego Padre, Luis Arraez saved the team from this fate. Getting San Francisco a third hit finally in the 8th, the first time the team appeared on base since the first inning.

But unfortunately, the Giants could not mount any sort of a comeback and the Yankees won with ease. Great for New York, but of course, this is not the start San Francisco wanted. But the season is young, so plenty of time for the Giants to right the ship. Nonetheless, it’s great to have baseball back and can’t wait to take in more great matchups all season.
