However, before the matches began in Monte Carlo, Alcaraz expressed his excitement to be back on clay. Feeling that it is going to be a great experience. He told the media,

The first tournament of the clay season. I miss it so much to be honest. So I’m going to try to enjoy this beautiful surface, beautiful tournament… Last year, I would say this was the turning point of 2025.”

Well, Alcaraz seemed to pick up right where he left off on this particular surface in 2025. The World #1 and defending champ Carlos Alcaraz dominated in his return back on clay with a good 6-1, 6-3 win over Sebastian Baez to reach the last 16 in Monte-Carlo. For Carlos, this now makes 14 consecutive wins on clay.

Sinner also enjoyed a fantastic showing. Defeating his opponent in around an hour (61 minutes). Jannik took down Humbert 6-3, 6-0 to secure a record-extending 36th consecutive set win at the Masters 1000 level; for 18 successive Masters 1000 wins. Beyond battling it out for the top ranked position, Jannik would also just like to play Alcaraz in general. It’s fun for these two excellent athletes and it’s great for their fans as well as the sport. Regarding playing Carlos, Sinner says, “Yeah, I do miss it. He’s a player who pushes me to my limits. But we both know that if we want to face each other, we both have to reach the final and the road to get there is really tough.” May this happen again soon!
