Women’s USA Basketball Demolishes Senegal and Puerto Rico in Fiba Qualifiers

In a nutshell, they are just plain dominating. Going into halftime up 30, getting it done offensively from all areas of the field. So far, no opponent has stood much of a chance. While the ladies have not had much time playing together as a unit, all of their talent is shining through crystal clear. In just their first two matchups of competition, the Women’s USA Basketball team demolishes both Senegal and Puerto Rico in the Fiba Qualifiers winning by more than 40 points.

There are several players making their USA Basketball Women’s National Team debut, such as Caitlin Clark, Monique Billings, Angel Reese, Rae Burrell, Paige Bueckers as well as Kiki Iriafen. The team also has a brand spanking new head coach (Kara Lawson). However, you would never know it, since from coaching on down the team looks solid as a rock.

In game one versus Senegal Rhyne Howard and Caitlin Clark were unstoppable. Howard finished with 21 points, while Caitlin Clark put up 17 points with 12 assists. And if you are wondering, yes Caitlin’s first points was one of her signature downtown threes. We love to see it.

Nonetheless, in the end the scoreboard would show an absolute blowout. USA defeated Senegal 110-46. Winning by over 60 points.

What about game two against Puerto Rico? How did that go? Pretty much the same.

Puerto Rico had no answers for the USA ladies. With a starting five lineup of Paige Bueckers, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, Kiki Iriafen and Monique Billings; Plum got the scoring started with a quick eight points to start the game. By the end of the first quarter USA was up by 17 points, leading 24-7. By halftime the lead had increased by almost 30, with the USA up 46-19.

After halftime, the USA had no issue hanging onto the lead. Getting the victory over the host city Puerto Rico, 91-48. Top performers were Paige Bueckers (16 points, 3 steals); Kelsey Plum (12 points) and Angel Reese (10 points, 13 rebounds).
