WNBPA Announced WNBA players Voted to Ratify Terms of 2026 CBA; WNBA Board of Governors Left to Approve
The WNBPA announced Monday that WNBA players have voted to ratify the terms of the 2026 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) after the league and the union reached a verbal agreement on the terms of a new labor deal last week. The WNBPA has ratified the new CBA with a unanimous vote with over 90% players participation, the union announced late Wednesday morning. With the player body side of things now approving and ratifying the terms of the 2026 CBA; the players now await one final step. The CBA terms are also subject to the approval of the WNBA Board of Governors. Only then, with the additional approval of these governors will the CBA officially become the new agreement.
However, to confirm the news of the players vote, the Women’s National Basketball Players Association released the following official statement:
“The WNBPA announced that, with over 90% participation and a unanimous vote to approve, the players have ratified the terms of the 2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This moment is the result of years of work and a shared belief that as the league rises, so must the players.
Too often, women have been told to be grateful for the opportunity. This union sees it differently. It is about knowing our worth and having the courage to demand more, not just for ourselves, but for those coming next.
This is bigger than basketball. It shows what happens when women refuse to settle and claim what they have earned. It reaches beyond sports into workplaces everywhere reinforcing what it means to be seen, respected, and compensated fairly for the work you do.
This transformational CBA delivers consequential economic progress and expanded benefits that support players on and off the court. It builds a stronger foundation for today’s players, the next generation, and those who helped build the WNBA. It affirms the strength of our union and the power of our collective voice.
Now it is time to get back to the game and the fans we love, competing at the highest level, and showing exactly what this league can be.”

Furthermore, now the mad dash begins to get some important work accomplished so that the season begins on time and smoothly. With just 46 days of offseason left franchises need to fill their vacancies and team rosters. First on the docket: the expansion draft for Portland and Toronto. After that, the 2026 WNBA Draft where college hoops stars such as Azzi Fudd are expected to join the league.
Additionally, between now and opening day on May 8, 100+ free agents will decide where they’ll play this summer. As one can see, a lot needs to happen before players report for training camp in April. But as WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert already confirmed; these issues will not delay the season. The season will begin on time. The WNBA IS BACK.
