WNBA Salary Cap Set to Top $10 Million by End of CBA Agreement
Little by little and bit by bit; additional details are emerging regarding the new CBA agreement between the league and union. While the salary cap in year one may be set for $7 Million, that’s not as low as it will stay in the future. In fact, the WNBA salary cap is set to top $10 million by the end of the CBA agreement.
This is a massive win for the players and especially when it comes down to team construction. Players will be better compensated and teams will have enough space and room to build strong, competitive teams.
Besides the financials, we also now know how long this new CBA agreement is set to last. It will cover more than half a decade. The new agreement will be a seven-year deal with an opt-out after Year 6. This exciting new agreement is expected to enhance various player benefits, codify charter travel and establish other professional standards.
Nevertheless, what is the full financial breakdown of the CBA? How much will be changing than in years past? Sources told Shams Charania of ESPN,
“The 2026 cap will reach $7 million, up from $1.5 million in 2025. In the prior agreement, the cap started at $1.3 million in 2020 and grew by 3% each year.
The 2026 supermax starts at $1.4 million in 2026. (It was $249,244 in 2025.) The average salary will be around $600,000 ($120,000 in 2025), with the minimum salary surpassing $300,000 ($66,079 in 2025).
The projected salary cap under the pending WNBA collective bargaining agreement is set to exceed $10 million by the end of the agreement.”

Still, a plethora of details about the agreement will not be released or made available until after a term sheet (which is currently being prepared) is completed. After that, an announcement is expected. Nonetheless, the deal then must be ratified by the WNBA board of governors and the WNBPA player body.
The term sheet will be voted on by players and then the WNBA Board of Governors before it becomes fully ratified. Once both sides sign off, the term sheet is formally executed, becoming the new CBA governing the league.
