WNBA Moves Fever Vs Wings to American Airlines Center Due to Demand
The game is not till the beginning of August. However, it is already making waves and in need of a venue upgrade due to the excitement surrounding it. But this is not too surprising being that this upcoming matchup will feature a superstar sophomore and a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. Nonetheless, the WNBA has moved the Fever Vs Wings game to American Airlines Center due to demand.
This is a great problem to have and to have to resolve. The WNBA continues to experience growth and reach new levels of popularity. In 2024 the league exploded as Caitlin Clark went from college to being drafted in the “W.” The WNBA averaged 9,807 fans per game, up 48% from the previous season (6,615 fans). With over 2 million basketball fans attending various matchups throughout the regular season; and all-time record of 54 million unique viewers across six TV networks.
And 2025 is still doing numbers. With the season kicking off with WNBA games at 90% capacity across the league. Furthermore, even expansion teams are faring extremely well this year. With the Golden State Valkyries selling out all of their home games thus far (10) at Chase Center; the same home of the Golden State Warriors. A venue that holds 18,064 screaming fans.

And with the WNBA All Star Game approaching, basketball fans are still packing in arenas and buying up tickets for future games. This time in order to go see Caitlin Clark versus Paige Bueckers; the Indiana Fever facing off with the Dallas Wings. NBA/WNBA reporter Scott Agness confirms the larger venue change stating, “[The] Fever’s second visit to Dallas to play the Wings has been moved to American Airlines Center on Aug. 1. It will air on ION.”
In case you are curious about capacity, here’s a couple numbers to enjoy. The American Airlines Center has a capacity of 21,000 for concerts. For NHL hockey games it can hold 18,532 individuals with standing room bringing the total to over 19,300. What about basketball? For basketball games this particular venue can hold 21,146 with standing room.
The Wings normally play at the 7,000-seat College Park Center. However, with the Indiana Fever coming to town it’s just not enough space. But thanks to a venue change more basketball enthusiasts will get to witness Paige and Caitlin go at it. A game that is sure to be really really GOOD.
