Will Levis And Jameis Winston Benched By Their Teams
It’s been a tough season for some quarterbacks. Some have been out due to injury and others have failed to perform up to expectations. This week it’s Will Levis and Jameis Winston who have been benched by their teams. Will Levis is with the Tennessee Titans and Jameis Winston is with the Cleveland Browns. Levis believes he can still be the franchise quarterback. Whereas Winston hopes to stay in the league with the Browns or if another team is interested in him.
Levis was advised on Tuesday morning that he would be demoted to backup quarterback by head coach Brian Callahan. Part of the reason for Callahan’s hire was to maximize the 2023 second-round pick’s potential. And that made benching Levis all the more difficult.
“I went back and watched a lot of things,” Callahan said. “It wasn’t for lack of coaching or pouring into, I mean we’ve given at every turn as much as we can to try to put Will in position to succeed, and he’s shown improvement. There’s a lot of things he has improved at, but there hasn’t been enough consistency at this moment.”
The decision comes after Levis’ four turnovers landed him on the bench in last week’s 37-27 loss to the Bengals. Levis knew he could have played better but at this point he’s taking the day-by-day approach.
“I still believe that I can be the franchise quarterback for this team,” Levis said Wednesday. “I have the utmost confidence in myself and my ability to lead any team in this league.”
For now Mason Rudolph is the starter and we’ll see if he finishes the season as such.

Jameis Winston provided a spark to Cleveland after Deshaun Watson was put on injured reserve. But his struggles have also held the team back. Winston has thrown 12 interceptions since Week 8, which is three more than Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins (9). Cousins was also just benched due to his own struggles.
Winston believes that he has shown enough to teams that he is a starting quarterback in the NFL. He is open to returning to the Browns next season. But so far there haven’t been any discussions with the Browns’ front office regarding an extension.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been named the starter this week. However, coach Kevin Stefanski said that he is “week-to-week” as to whether he will stay in the starting role. Thompson-Robinson, a 2023 fifth-round pick, will make his fourth career start Sunday.
