Wild Ending For Match Up Between Lions And Cowboys

Wild Ending For Match Up Between Lions And Cowboys

We saw some of everything in the Saturday night NFC game. But none of it compared to the wild ending for the match up between the Lions and Cowboys. I wonder if head coach of the Lions Dan Campbell has any regrets. We’ll need to catch the post-game conference to find out.

In the meantime, the Lions opened the game with a good drive. But it slowed down as they approached the red zone. And an illegal block penalty on Detroit finished killing it. They settled on a 41 yard field goal. Dak Prescott was intercepted on their first possession. Melifonwu read it perfectly jumping in front of CeeDee Lamb to pick off the pass.

Yet the Lions couldn’t take advantage. Goff was sacked, tackles were missed resulting in negative rushing yards. Sam LaPorta particularly was having difficulty on blocking assignments. He wasn’t the only one, the offensive line in general was lacking. The Dallas defense on the whole was regularly in the Lions backfield.

CeeDee Lamb got some payback for the prior interception. Dak Prescott should have been sacked in the end zone. However, the Lions missed a tackle. Instead of a safety, Prescott heaved a pass to Lamb who took it 92 yards for the touchdown.

In the second quarter Dan Campbell took a big gamble. A faked punt got the Lions to the Dallas 30 yard line. At the 4 yard line Campbell went for it on 4th & 4. They couldn’t punch it in. Down 3-7 why not take the points?

In the third quarter the Lions went 74 yards to get their first touchdown. It took 7:26 off the clock. But Dallas had plenty of time to finish the quarter with a field goal. Detroit went on another long drive going 78 yards. On the Dallas 7 yard line they couldn’t get the touchdown.

I was afraid Campbell was going for it on fourth down again. But he went with the 30 yard field goal which was good.

The end of the game was crazy. Detroit was down by seven with less than two minutes on the clock. They quickly got down the field and scored the touchdown. However, gamble Campbell went for the 2-point conversion. The extra point would have tied the game at 20-20. Although they got the conversion, a flag was thrown.

Offensive lineman Decker failed to report in as eligible and he was not lined up correctly. Campbell again went for the 2 point conversion but Dallas was offsides. On the third2 point attempt Goff’s throw was to low and went incomplete. Dallas won the game 19-20.

Kicking that field goal in the first half sure would have come in handy.
