Where Do the Eagles Go From Here?
As we wrote about earlier today, Jason Kelce announced his retirement. But there are many other issues that need to be addressed. So where do the Eagles go from here having lost on Super Wild Card Weekend? We have seen a steady decline in their performance for the last seven weeks of the 2023 season.
After their impressive 10-1 start it seemed like they were destined for the Super Bowl again. Yet that dream came to an end before the regular season did.
As Troy Aikman said during the playoff game, “I don’t know what that is but we’ve seen enough of it all year long.” “It continues…on both sides of the ball, to just show the problems that Philadelphia has had and why they had the collapse that they had to end this season.” Not holding back at all, he went on to say, “We’ve been watching that for six or seven weeks. It’s been continuous. It’s a defeated team, and they were when they came in.”
Despite firing the defensive coordinator and promoting Matt Patricia to the position, the defense got worse. And their terrible play was on full display last night. Tampa Bay gained over 200 yards after the catch overall. That means the defense was missing tackles, chasing receivers from behind, or not even in the vicinity to make a tackle.
Not being able to stop an offense not only puts points on the board for the opponent but it reduces the number of opportunities for their own offense to try to score.
