Week 6 Ended the Undefeated Teams
I’m an angry fan this week. That’s because Week 6 ended the undefeated teams. San Francisco 49ers lost to the Cleveland Browns. And the Philadelphia Eagles were felled by the New York Jets. It seems ludicrous that two teams with uncertainties across the board could pull off the unthinkable.
However, I’m also an angry fan because I’m blaming the refs for the 49ers loss. There were holding penalties that were routinely ignored throughout the game. Of course every NFL fan says that so I’ll just move on. But it also didn’t help that RB Christian McCaffrey and WR Deebo Samuel both did not play in the game. The 49ers will need to get them back sooner rather than later. Kudos to the Cleveland Browns defense for wreaking havoc the whole game.
As for the eagles, the turnovers were a killer. Three interceptions, a fumble, and a missed field goal sealed their fate. The Eagles were better in 3rd down efficiency, threw for more yards, and sacked Wilson 5 times. But none of that matters when you turn the ball over. Sloppiness is a formula for losing. The Jets, on the other hand, are gaining confidence which bodes well for them.
The Jaguars brought their winning ways from London back to the States. Scoring 21 points in the second quarter, the Jags kept their foot on the gas. The Colts never really had a chance and lost 20-37. However, QB Trevor Lawrence suffered a knee injury so we’ll have to keep an eye on that.
Speaking of QB injuries, Jimmy Garoppolo’s back injury sent him to the hospital for evaluation. Brian Hoyer played the second half and the Raiders got the 17-21 victory over the New England Patriots. Now that’s sweet revenge for the former Patriots, Garoppolo and Hoyer. The former Patriots OC and current Raiders HC Josh McDaniels likely also basked in the win.
Week 6 Ended the Undefeated Teams
The Ravens held on for their win against the Titans. Both QBs each had an interception. The Ravens couldn’t get much going in the 2nd half. But a late 3rd quarter interception by Tannehill helped the Ravens score a field goal. Tannehill left the game with an ankle injury and the Ravens added on another field goal. That helped them get the 24-16 victory.
Washington Commanders appear to be progressing. They kept control of the game and the lead. Sam Howell threw for three touchdowns. Desmond Ridder threw two touchdowns and three interceptions. Which makes it feel like the Falcons are regressing. Both teams are 3-3 so we’ll see how things unfold going forward.
The Vikings barely beat the Bears. Yes pun is intended. Minnesota recovered a fumble and ran it back for a 42-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The Bears tried to mount a comeback scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. On the next possession the Vikings intercepted the Bears around the six yard line, It was run back to the 45 yard line, fumbled but recovered by Minnesota. And that was it for the Bears, losing 19-13.
Other News and Notes
The Seahawks lost a heart-breaker to the Bengals. Both teams played hard but the Bengals prevailed 13-17. The Saints lost to the Texans 13-20. An interception at the Houston 24 yard line was the death knell for the Saints. I thought the Buccaneers might be able to pull off a win. But the Lions just cruised to another victory, 20-6. I guess the Dolphins hadn’t had their coffee yet. They got down 14-0 in the first quarter. However, they decided to start playing in the second quarter and crushed the Panthers 21-42. Sorry Panthers fans.
Turnovers were big this week costing teams the chance to win. Also defense was the order of the day. They were playing hard for just about every team in the league. Which is probably why there weren’t a lot of high scoring games. And no really bad blowouts. Yea defense! So tomorrow Dallas @ LA Chargers will close out week 6. Enjoy the game.
