Week 10 Delivered More Surprises And Upsets

Frankfurt, Germany hosted the NFL for a second straight week. The Patriots lost which was not surprising. However, Week 10 like Week 9 delivered more surprises and upsets. But in regards to New England, you have to wonder if Mac Jones will be benched for the rest of the season. He was replaced by Bailey Zappe in the fourth quarter. There’s also speculation about how much longer head coach Bill Belichick will retain the position.

A surprise victory went to the Cleveland Browns over the red hot Baltimore Ravens. Deshaun Watson returned as the starting QB. The Browns got off to a slow start while Baltimore put up 17 points in the first quarter. It looked to be a another runaway win for the Ravens. However, the Browns mounted a furious comeback in the second half. A deflected pass by Lamar Jackson in the fourth quarter resulted in an interception returned for a touchdown by the Browns. They went on to score the winning field goal. Considering the top two defenses were playing the score was ridiculously high 33-31. Go figure.

Houston getting the win over the Bengals was an upset to me. I thought the Bengals had hit their stride but they stumbled against the Texans. Unable to capitalize on two fumbles by Houston didn’t help their cause. Also the Bengals had interceptions on back to back possessions. However, the game was close and C.J. Stroud led the drive to get Houston’s game winning field goal.

Despite the loss of Kirk Cousins, Minnesota won again yesterday. The addition of Joshua Dobbs has been a good one. He lead the team to a 19-27 victory over New Orleans.

Week 10 Delivered More Surprises And Upsets

With their star weapons back on the field, the 49ers got back to the business of winning. They demolished the Jaguars 34-3. Trevor Lawrence, who always remains calm, was sacked five times and threw two interceptions. It was a rough day for the Jags but the 49ers were all smiles. Green Bay hung in there with the Steelers matching them play for play. But back-to-back interceptions in the fourth quarter ruined their comeback. Both passes were intercepted in the end zone resulting in their 19-23 loss to the Steelers.

Tampa Bay got the win over the Titans. Will Levis was named the starting quarterback for the Titans. Expectations will be for him to win, so he and the Titans will need to score more points. A 6-20 loss is not what they’re looking for. Atlanta had a two point half-time lead thanks to a failed 2-point conversion by the Cardinals. Eventually the Cardinals scored the touchdown to give them the lead and the win. Welcome back to Cardinals QB Kyler Murray. It was his first game since he tore his ACL in week 14 last season.

It was a wild and crazy game between the Detroit Lions and L.A. Chargers. At first the Lions had the game in hand but the Chargers fought back. And almost pulled off the victory. No one expected such a high scoring game but it ended at 41-38. Both QBs threw over 300 yards and multiple touchdowns. But ultimately the Lions held on for the exciting win. Nobody was surprised the Cowboys beat up on the Giants 17-49. Undrafted third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito was the starter. Not much else needs to be said.

More News and Notes

Another tough contest was between the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks took the lead in the third quarter. Geno Smith dumped off a little pass t0 running back Kenneth Walker III who took it 64 yards for the touchdown. With :03 left the Seahawks kicked a field goal to end the game 26-29.

The Raiders ground out a tough Sunday night win against the Jets. Both defenses were playing hard as only one touchdown was scored by the Raiders in the fourth quarter. It was nail biter at the end but the Raiders held on for the 12-16 victory.

Week 10 will wrap up with the Broncos @ Bills. I would assume the Bills should win against the 3-5 Broncos but this is the NFL. The unexpected can happen at any time. So we’ll soon see how it all plays out.
