Washington Commanders Suffered Two Significant Injuries In Blowout Loss To Vikings

We wondered if the Commanders would rush their quarterback into the game and if it was even worth it to have him play again as soon as possible. Apparently they  thought it made sense to quickly get him back out there. Today Jayden Daniels took to the field and didn’t finish the game. In fact, the Washington Commanders suffered two significant injuries in the 31-0 blowout loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Daniels had previously dislocated his left elbow in a Week 9 gruesome injury. Resulting in him missing three games prior to returning today. In today’s game he injured the same elbow again when he threw an interception in the opening drive of the third quarter. He hit the turf pretty hard and did not return for the remainder of the game. His stat line was 9-of-20 passing for 78 yards with no touchdowns and one INT after exiting. The score was 14-0 when Daniels left the game and Marcus Mariota took over.

But the bad times for the Commanders continued in the same quarter when the veteran tight end Zach Ertz went down. He was ruled out in the third quarter with a knee injury and was carted to the locker room. Ertz’s injury looked horrific and it’s feared that he has a torn ACL. More tests will be performed tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury. Ertz is an integral part of the Commanders’ offense and had his best game of the season last week. He put up 10 catches for 106 yards and moved to fifth all-time in catches for a tight end.

The Commanders had high hopes of winning the game against the struggling Vikings. However, despite having their star quarterback back it didn’t turn out that way.

This was the first time Washington has been shut out in six years. And it was their eighth straight loss in the last two months. So it seems that rushing Daniels back to field wasn’t beneficial and perhaps counterproductive. It’s no wonder that former quarterback Robert Griffin III suggested the following:

“Jayden Daniels shouldn’t play another game this season. Let him fully heal. We know he wants to play because all real Warriors and leaders want to put it all on the line for their teammates no matter the score or the teams record. Protect him and his future.

And to round things out the Commanders were officially eliminated from the playoff race today. Daniels is still young and if he takes off the rest of the season he should fully heal and be ready for next season. But who knows if Ertz will be able to return to the game as he’s been in the league for 13 years. We’ll learn more tomorrow.
