Washington Commanders Hire Dan Quinn As Head Coach
It was finally made official on their website. But the Washington Commanders decided to hire Dan Quinn as their head coach. Quinn comes with a ton of NFL experience. His last position was with the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive coordinator.
He began his NFL coaching career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. His position was defensive quality control coach. Not only is Quinn know for his keen football mind. But he is also good at building culture and getting the respect of the players.
Cowboys star pass-rusher Micah Parsons said, “I hope those players buy in and play extremely hard for him, and understand that ain’t no one going to love them and care more about them than Dan Quinn. So man, please appreciate his presence, appreciate his greatness, and take care of my guy.”
Quinn was also the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 – 2020. He worked as the defensive coordinator for both the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys. Building some of the best defenses during his tenures. That’s good news for the Commanders who had one of the worst defenses in the 2023 season.
“My partners and I entered this off-season intent on hiring elite candidates to shape the next chapter of Commanders football and I believe we did just that — first with Adam Peters and now by welcoming the highly respected Dan Quinn as our head coach,” Josh Harris, Managing Partner of the Washington Commanders, said.

For his part Quinn expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Commanders organization. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to become the next head coach of such a storied franchise and fan base,” said Quinn. “Under the leadership of Josh Harris, the ownership group, and Adam Peters, we cannot wait to help usher in a new era of Washington Commanders football. The organization has an outstanding vision, and I’m honored to be a part of what’s next.
Nevertheless, this hiring completes the head coach hiring carousel. Eight head coach positions were filled this season comprising 25% of the league. So the 2024 season will certainly look different. We’ll see which hires were a hit and which ones were a miss.
