Washington Commanders Got Cold Reception At Lambeau Field On Thursday Night
It was the first time the two NFC powerhouses had met on Thursday Night Football. And it was a highly anticipated contest with both teams coming off of Week 1 wins. And led by two talented and young quarterbacks capable of making exciting plays. Nevertheless the Washington Commanders got a cold reception at Lambeau Field on Thursday Night. And it’s not even cold weather there yet.
Green Bay’s defense set the tone from the start of the game. They caused a negative yardage run, Nick Allegretti committed an illegal use of hands penalty that cost the Commanders 10 yards. Therefore, they had to punt the ball on the opening possession of the game since they couldn’t convert on 3rd & 17. Green Bay’s offense answered with that same energy marching down the field and scoring a touchdown. A large chunk of the yard came from a 57-yard reception by tight end Tucker Kraft. And they would keep that synergy throughout the game.
The Packers’ defense was relentless throughout the game. They were swarming so much that Jayden Daniels was either running from them or being rushed into throwing an incompletion. And they used Micah Parsons as a decoy which made it more difficult for the Commanders’ offense to figure out what they were doing. If Parsons wasn’t blitzing then he was getting pressure on the quarterback.
However there were some miscues on special teams for both teams. On the Commanders’ first attempt their 51 yard field goal was good. But their second attempt didn’t go as well as it was a 58-yard attempt. So it’s understandable that it went wide left. But the Packers followed up with their own 48-yard field goal attempt but the football hit the left upright. So during the first half the Packers scored touchdowns on two 90+ yards drives. And took a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Commanders’ kicking woes continued into the third quarter with a missed 52 yard field goal that was no good, this one hit the right upright. But Green Bay was successful in hitting a 22 yard field goal. However, Washington had no intention of laying down on the job. In the fourth quarter Jayden Daniels threw a pass to Zach Ertz for 20 yards and the touchdown. Then Jordan Love once again found Tucker Kraft for an 8-yard touchdown to conclude a 60 yard drive. Green Bay tacked on another field goal for good measure but Washington answered with another touchdown.
However it wasn’t enough to overcome the Packers as Love kneeled on the ball to end the game. They won 18-27 and Amazon Prime provided an interesting fact. The Green Bay Packers are the 1st team to start a season with 2 wins in 5 days vs teams that made playoffs the previous season. In sad news, Commanders running back Austin Ekeler suffered an Achilles injury. Wishing him a speedy recovery and congrats to the Packers on the victory.
