Was Super Bowl LIX Travis Kelce's Last NFL Game

Was Super Bowl LIX Travis Kelce’s Last NFL Game?

Super Bowl LIX was a glorious event for the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans. They dominated the Kansas City Chiefs who did not play up to the level people expected. And that included their super star veteran tight end Travis Kelce. He often looked slow, out of place or just not engaged in the game. That is not how he generally plays the game so we are left to wonder was Super Bowl LIX Travis Kelce’s last NFL game?

Prior to Sunday’s big game there had been speculation about Kelce retiring from the NFL. His fans didn’t want to hear that kind of talk and didn’t put much stock in it. However, after seeing him play on Sunday it was a bit surprising to see him not going all out like he usually does. He failed to pick up some of his blocking assignments and had no catches in the first half. That was a first for him in his career to have no first half catches in a game.

And this is not an indictment on Kelce as the entire Kansas City Chiefs team did not play well. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had several errant passes resulting in multiple interceptions. One of which was a pick-six for the Eagles. And another one put the Eagles in prime field position allowing them to score another touchdown. So coming off such a disaster of a game may have left Kelce wondering if it’s time to hang up the cleats? Or does he want to get another crack at the big game next season? Kelce, who is 35 and headed for his 13th NFL season, says that he will take time before deciding if he will play next season.

Was Super Bowl LIX Travis Kelce’s Last NFL Game?

On his very popular podcast with his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, Kelce shared some thoughts:

“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year. Right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road,” Kelce said. “I’m kicking every can that I can down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions, but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding that there’s a lot that goes into this thing.”

“I think I’m gonna take some time to figure it out,” Kelce said. “I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s going to be something that it’s a wholehearted decision, I’m not half-assing it, I’m fully here for them. I think I can play. It’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”

So the answer to the question is he doesn’t know and only he can make that decision. But as soon as we find out we’ll let you know.
