Warriors Steve Kerr Agrees to Two Year $35 Million Contract Extension
When it comes to sports, one way or another, it always comes down to the mighty dollar. Money helps franchises improve, develop or stay strong by keeping their winning core or staff together. Golden State is making a move in order to achieve the latter; especially, with their current coach. And the coach is all in. Yes, the Warriors Steve Kerr agrees to a two year $35 million contract extension to stay helming the team.
Kerr’s leadership has been evident with Golden State. With him as the coach, the team has won 4 championships and 2 other trips to the NBA Finals during his 9 years as coach. Getting to the Finals is extremely difficult for many NBA franchises; much less winning once you’re there. 4 championships is nothing to bat an eye at; it is a major accomplishment for any NBA coach.
There’s only a few guys with more hardware as a NBA coach than Kerr. Legends such as Red Auerbach, Greg Popovich and the icon that is Phil Jackson. The Golden Warriors are aware of this, they still see value; therefore, they are making sure Kerr stays for the next two revolutions around the sun.

Golden State has won championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and most recently, 2022. So just two years ago, a trophy was being hoisted. Therefore, while some of their games haven’t been played the best, they still could make some changes and find themselves back in the hunt for another title.
To the Warriors franchise, the first step was maintaining Kerr; and they don’t mind spending some coin in order to make it happen. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN immediately reports on the Steve Kerr contract extension. Wojnarowski states,
“BREAKING: Golden State’s Steve Kerr has agreed on a two-year, $35 million contract extension, Rick Smith and Dan Eveloff of Priority Sports tell ESPN. Kerr’s new deal makes him the highest paid coach in league history at $17.5M a year.”
Furthermore, FOX News has a further thought on the situation and adds,
“The new deal puts his (Kerr’s contract extension) in line with Curry’s deal that also will end at the end of the 2025-26 season. Kerr’s .655 winning percentage is the fifth-best in NBA history.”
Therefore, it looks like Steve Kerr and Steph Curry will get one more shot at glory together. One last dance to bring another championship to the west. They have a nice legacy together already, so it will be riveting to see if they can pull it off.
