Warriors Steph Curry Eyeing Return on Sunday in Matchup Facing Rockets

Never count out one of the greatest shooters of all time. Golden State’s superstar has been sidelined for most of the season, however, he’s worked hard to put himself into a position to make his return to the court. The Warriors Steph Curry is eyeing a return on Sunday in a matchup facing the Houston Rockets.

This news comes on the heels of a recent reevaluation of Steph’s injury. The 38-year-old point guard has been out since Jan. 30 with a right knee injury. However, he successfully went through his first full practice in two months Tuesday. Nevertheless, there was still just one more step the Warriors wanted number 30 to take in order to ensure that he is good to go.

Head Coach, Steve Kerr discussed this final “check up” with the media this past Tuesday stating,

“He went through a full practice, but it was very light. We didn’t do anything live. He’s gonna scrimmage right now five-on-five. It’s a good step for him.

We got to see how he responds to the scrimmage. And then we’ll just take it day by day. … It’s just a progression from here. If he’s feeling well, we’ll scrimmage again and we’ll just kinda go from there.”

So then, how did the scrimmage go? Good/bad? According to The New York Times, Nick Friedell and Sam Amick,

A team source later said Curry handled the scrimmage well, but his status will continue to be assessed daily. Curry has continued to push behind the scenes to make a return and was hopeful he would have a few games to get a rhythm before the start of the Play-In games April 15.”

That makes a lot of sense. No one wants to enter the postseason “cold” or not feeling in sync with their teammates. That’s not a winning strategy or formula. So then, Stephen Curry is aiming for Sunday to get his feel back in time for the playoffs.

Nonetheless, the Warriors have their work cut out for them as the season nears it close. Golden State currently has a record slightly below .500 (36-39), which currently places them in 10th place in the Western Conference. The team is trying to catch the ninth-place Portland Trail Blazers (38-38) in order to host their first Play-In game.

And time is running out. GSW has only a few games left remaining to move up in the standings. But legendary players like Curry are built for the trials. As he previously told the media, “That’s not who we are… If we have stuff to play for, we play.”
