Warriors Steph Curry and Michelle Obama Team Up for Sports Drink
Steph Curry has long touted the importance of drinking water to stay hydrated. In fact, he is a lead investor as well as brand ambassador for Nirvana Water Sciences Corp; and he is an investor plus global face of the brand —OXIGEN, a pH-balanced water that is boosted with oxygen. Therefore, it is safe to say #30 is big on drinks that replenish the body efficiently. Now he is moving in the same vein just with another business venture and partner. The Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and former First Lady Michelle Obama are teaming for a new sports drink.
This is a smart move by both parties. Especially, when you mull over energy and sports beverage revenue statistics. The sports drink industry is very profitable and only shows signs of continued growth. How much? Well, according to Fortune Business Insights,
“The global sports drink market size was USD 26.24 billion in 2020 and is projected to grow from USD 27.22 billion in 2021 to USD 36.35 billion in 2028. [Furthermore], the U.S. sports drink market size was valued at USD 6.50 billion in 2021 and is projected to grow from USD 6.77 billion in 2022 to USD 9.38 billion by 2029, exhibiting a CAGR of 4.76% during the forecast period.”
So then, it is safe to say that energy as well as sports drinks are on the up and up. And Steph and Michelle are getting in on the action. But, of course, doing so in a very healthy way. Mrs. Obama in the past has had initiatives to help improve school lunches and it looks like she is being that same healthy viewpoint to her sports drink with Curry.
The beverage is called PLEZi Hydration; and it is debuting with three flavors — lemon lime, tropical punch and orange mango twist. It will be available at Amazon and at select grocery stores in California; the home of Curry’s team, the Golden State Warriors. A 16.9-ounce bottle costs $2.29, roughly in the same price range as other hydration drinks.

Co-founded by former First Lady Michelle Obama, PLEZi is all about big flavor, real ingredients, and zero added sugar in every sip. Plezi Hydration has half the sugar and sodium and seven times the potassium of Gatorade. The company also says it has a full daily dose of vitamin C to support immune health and muscle repair.
Curry is launching this new sports hydration drink with former first lady Michelle Obama’s drink brand, PLEZi. It marks his entrance into the roughly $25 billion market. But with the pair taking a healthy approach to the sports drink market; they could carve out a nice, big piece of the industry.
