With that goal firm in mind the Golden State Warriors sign Malevy Leons to a two-way deal and waive the injured Alex Toohey. Toohey has not played in any games this season.
Anthony Slater of ESPN reported on this development and the trade deadline mentioning, “The Warriors are adding 6-foot-9 wing Malevy Leons on a two-way contract and waiving recent second round pick Alex Toohey, per source. It’s injury related. Toohey needs knee surgery and is out for the season. Leons is averaging 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds for the OKC Blue. [Meanwhile] Jonathan Kuminga gets a DNP in a blowout Warriors road win [over the Chicago Bulls]. The January 15th trade eligibility date will continue to loom in the background.”
NBA insider Michael Scotto of USA Today added, “Golden State Warriors and Malevy Leons have agreed to a two-way deal, agent Drew Kelso of OneMotiveSports told Hoops Hype. He played 6 games for the OKC Thunder last season. He’s averaged 14.6 points (51% FG and 44% 3PT), 7.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals in the G League.”

Very interesting. And this move looks to be a solid decision as well as pickup for the Warriors. Leons played at Bradley and has been in the Thunder’s system since 2024. A two-time MVC DPOY. Furthermore, for any jersey fanatics please note that Malevy Leons will wear No. 33.
Malevy adds a little more pop offensively but where fans will probably be happy to see him get to work at is providing rim protection. In this particular area he’s SOLID.
