Vikings Fourth Round Pick Khyree Jackson Passes in Automobile Accident

Gone too soon. Many looked forward to seeing the development of this good-natured and amazing talented young player. On Saturday morning the news was sadly confirmed, the Vikings fourth round pick Khyree Jackson had passed away in an overnight automobile accident.

This young man had a very bright future. And he had worked extremely hard in order to have it. Before being drafted as a fourth round pick by Minnesota; Jackson had been grinding day in and day out; working at a grocery store.

Khyree was a standout at the store’s deli department; even becoming their Employee of the Month. Yet, Jackson set his sights higher; giving it all he had to get the opportunity to play football. Therefore, you can just imagine his elation upon learning that he would be a Minnesota Viking. His dream had come true.

However, now Jackson will not get the chance to run out the tunnel. Hear his name called to the beating of drums and the boisterous Skol cries from the crowd. The former Oregon CB’s tragic accident has stolen the opportunity to play professional ball; which was just mere weeks away from fruition. His agent, and former high school coach confirms the news of the unfortunate automobile accident.

Moreover, Kevin Seifert reports that police believe Jackson and others were the victims of a drunk driver. Seifert reveals,

“According to Maryland State police, Khyree Jackson was a passenger in a car that was struck by another that was traveling at a high rate of speed. He was one of three people that died in the accident. Investigators believe alcohol may be a factor. Charges pending.”

But more details shall come to light soon. Nevertheless, as the investigation continues Minnesota Vikings head coach, Kevin O’Connell releases a statement regarding Jackson. He states,

“I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him.

I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

“I am heartbroken by the loss of Khyree. As we got to know him throughout the pre-draft process, it was clear the goals Khyree wanted to accomplish both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience.

He was taking steps to become the best version of himself not just for him, but for those who cared about and looked up to him. Khyree’s personality captured every room he was in. I’m devastated that his life and everything he had in front of him has been cut short. My thoughts are with Khyree’s family and friends, those who played with and coached him in college, and his teammates and coaches here at the Vikings.”

The NFL also prepared a brief statement. They say,

“The NFL family is deeply saddened and devasted by the passing of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, loved ones and everybody involved in this tragic accident.”
