Venezuela Defeats USA in 2026 World Baseball Classic in 3-2 Thriller
History has been made. One country who had never won the WBC put it all on the line. It came down to two juggernaut teams, but only one could be the victor. Venezuela defeats the USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic in a 3-2 thriller!
At first, both teams struggled to get on the board. Through two innings the game remained scoreless. However, finally in the third the action started heating up. The Venezuelans finally broke the pitching duel dam wide open.
Things started to look somewhat precarious for the USA as Team Venezuela found themselves with a player at second and third in scoring position. With these two men on base and down two strikes, batter Maikel Garcia steps up and does the one thing American fans feared, drive in a run. Garcia gets a hit off of Team USA starting pitcher, Nolan McLean. Venezuela now leads 1-0.
As the innings ticked by, Team USA was not able to answer back with a run of their own. Mainly due to the very impressive pitching performance of Venezuelan hurler, Eduardo Rodriguez. Eduardo was mowing guys down with zero mercy. His efforts greatly kept Team USA from playing catch up until late in the game.
In the fifth inning Venezuela added onto their lead with a home run by Wilyer Abreu. At the top of the six, the USA gave themselves a chance and opportunity. Bryce Harper gets a hit into left field and makes it to first base. Then the Team Captain Aaron Judge comes to the plate, but there’s just one problem. There are already two outs; therefore, there’s definitely some pressure.
But Judge seems calm, and finds himself up in the count, 2-0. Could this be it? Would the USA finally make their way onto the scoreboard? No. Ultimately, Judge would groundout towards third and end the inning, thus ushering us into the top of the 7th. However, Venezuela would not score.
Bottom of the seventh Team USA would get another chance. Once again, man on base. But once, could not bring the runner home.
Flash forward to the bottom of the eighth. The USA and American baseball fans are experiencing déjà vu. There is an American man on base but would he too be stranded? Would a THIRD opportunity and time FINALLY be the charm? YES! You couldn’t script this moment if you tried! However, you could feel the momentum building for the USA over the last few innings.
They just kept knocking on the door and it finally swings open. The man who got the USA on base first in the championship game, the Phillies Bryce Harper, comes in CLUTCH and demolishes a ball to center field. It is now 2-2. Who wants it more? Venezuela or USA.

Well, the triumphant home run from Harper wouldn’t allow Team USA to celebrate for long. San Francisco Giant, Luis Arraez would work a lead off walk. Venezuela replaces Luis with a pinch runner, then Eugenio Suarez gets a big hit and puts Team Venezuela back on top 3-2. Could the USA have a little magic left in the bottom of the ninth?
Not this year. Venezuelan pitching would get the job done and hold the lead. Venezuela wins the World Baseball Classic for the very first time. Team USA gave it their all and made it a game. One swing short. But the glory shall go their opponents, congratulations to Team Venezuela.
