USC Trojans JuJu Watkins Passes Caitlin Clark For NCAA Scoring Record

Caitlin Clark is one of the greatest college basketball players of all time. A scoring legend that has transformed, enriched and exploded the WNBA in unprecedented ways that we have never witnessed before in the history of the league. Therefore, when someone comes along and engraves their name into same stone of legacy, you definitely take note. Case in point, the USC Trojans’ JuJu Watkins passes up Caitlin Clark for NCAA Scoring Record during the Big 10 Championship Game.

USC may not have come away with the win; but Watkins still walked away with plenty to be proud about. The UCLA Bruins had only two losses through what has so far been the best campaign in program history, but both were at the hands of JuJu and the Trojans. Leading a remnant of fans to believe the game could easily go and fall USC’s way. And it almost did.

It was a very TIGHT finish till the very end. However, when all was said and done the Bruins would earn bragging rights. UCLA captures the Big Ten Championship over the Trojans, 72-67  with Lauren Betts having a great performance and scoring 17 points.

Nevertheless, USC star JuJu Watkins has had a stellar season as well and shattered numerous records along the way. Furthermore, on Sunday, she etched her name in NCAA Division I history by surpassing Caitlin Clark’s record of 1,662 points through her freshman and sophomore seasons—a milestone Watkins reached in the middle of the game.

Watkins entered the contest with 1,655 points through her first two collegiate seasons at USC. In Clark’s first two seasons at Iowa, she scored 1,662 points. When Watkins reached eight points midway through the first half against UCLA, she leapfrogged Clark into second place all-time for points in a women’s college basketball player’s first two seasons. Only ahead of Watkins and Clark now: Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 1,762.

Immediately, college basketball enthusiasts obviously wonder can JuJu Watkins break another record of Clark’s. Thus, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in college basketball history. Well, of course, all things are possible, but it will still be tough to do.

Caitlin went scorched earth after her sophomore year concluded. Clark scored a combined 2,289 points as a junior and senior. Being in the 1600 points range, JuJu has serious ground to make up if she wants to take the crown. But this just shows how talented both of these ladies are and how the future of women’s basketball is in very good hands.
