USC Star JuJu Watkins Unveils First Signature Shoe With LeBron James NXXT Gen Line

She is working hard towards her return and long-awaited comeback after unfortunately suffering an injury during last year’s March Madness tournament. But beyond hoops this young woman is also continuing to build her brand and business empire. On Monday, it was announced that USC star JuJu Watkins is unveiling her first signature shoe with the LeBron James NXXT Gen Line.

Watkins will be making sneaker history with this latest sportswear and athleisure move. Nike is set to drop her first signature shoe this upcoming summer. Thus, making her the very first athlete with a signature pair under the LeBron James NXXT line, according to a report from The Athletic. JuJu introduced her shoe at Nike’s community store in Watts last month, as signs stating “Watts Made” and “Give Watts Its Flowers” supported her apparel achievement.

Watkins is very thankful and grateful to be connected to the LeBron brand. And she put her heart and soul into the shoe’s details as well as design in order to represent the James entity properly. JuJu states,

“LeBron has been a role model of mine since I’ve started basketball, not only as a player, but as a person. To have him trust me with this process and trust my creative skills, to be really supportive, believe in me for the player I am … it’s just insane to have your idol feel that way towards you. I’m honestly so grateful for him for taking that chance and giving me this opportunity.

I definitely don’t take anything for granted to be able to have this opportunity and hope that the younger girls behind me can do something even bigger,” Watkins said. “Just continue to change the game in any way that I can and show girls what’s possible and what they can do.”

The LeBron NXXT Gen by JuJu “Silver Lining,” sneaker is co-created by Watkins and LeBron James. The shoe will incorporate details that are special to the rising basketball star. For instance, a quilted flower pattern appears on the interior collar and tongue. The back of the tongue has a “By JuJu” doodle.

Also of note are the thickness of the laces; a popular shoe style trend found in Southern California. The “fat” laces coming with the shoes are 16 millimeters, slightly thicker than standard laces. Watkins said she wanted to “pay homage” to her Los Angeles roots with that touch. Additionally, the “Silver Lining” colorway is a nod to her finding the good in situations, including her bounce-back from injury.
