USA Men’s Basketball Defeats Serbia at 2024 Olympics- Lebron and Curry on Game
The Olympics are normally a “youth” dominated event. However, Team USA is an “older” team that is showing that age is just a number, with players like Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Lebron James getting the job done and making it look easy. Thanks to their immense talent, tenacity, as well as veteran experience; USA Men’s Basketball defeats Serbia at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The game gets off to a slow start for the men. But due to this ‘slowness’ also occurring in the previous exhibition matches; there wasn’t much of a reason to panic. Nevertheless, Steve Kerr still takes a timeout and then Team USA gets rolling.
In the end, the U.S. would take the big “W” winning 110-84 on Sunday. While everyone did their thing, it is Kevin Durant that REALLY stood out. Kevin looked great, especially since he didn’t play or participate in ANY of the exhibition games before the start of the Olympics. Due to nursing a calf injury. However, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a three-time gold medalist.
Nevertheless, you would have never known Durant had been dealing with any such ailment. Kevin Durant returned to play and was perfect from the floor in an exhilarating first half of an eventual 26-point win. Every shot was just… EASY MONEY!
He came off the bench and scored 21 points in a perfect first half, as he hit all eight of his shots, including five 3-pointers. Kevin’s efforts helped Team USA to be up nine going into halftime. Durant would overall finish with a team-high 23 points.
USA Men’s Basketball Defeats Serbia at 2024 Olympics- Lebron and Curry on Game
However, Lebron was… his usually king self. Doing Lebron things. Plus, the combination of him and Durant just proved to be too much for Serbia.
LeBron James added 21 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in his first Olympic appearance since 2016. James was also perfect from the floor in the first half (5 for 5). James was also effective in the second half, taking over the game at moments in the third quarter. Durant (8 for 9) and James (9 for 13) combined to go 17 for 22 (77.2%) from the floor in the game. That’s what fans what to see from these two.
Curry discussed the game after its conclusion. Steph Curry contributed to the win by making three triples. Nonetheless, he states,
“Very, very important to get off to a good start in this tournament because every game is so big,” Curry said after his Olympic debut. “You only have six of them if you want to get to the gold and obviously, Serbia is a great team. They run an intricate offense and a very physical defense. KD was unbelievable in the first half and gave us a huge boost, and our defense in the second half opened the game up.”
Lebron James’ take on it? He notices the improvement and their chemistry/gelling together. He says,
“That’s the best game we’ve played so far. Whatever it takes. It’s going to be somebody different every day. And we have that type of firepower.”
So then, the USA is rolling. And looking strong. But… next they will face South Sudan on Wednesday. A team which is playing in the Olympics for the first time. During exhibition play this summer, Team USA narrowly avoided a loss to South Sudan, 101-100, to remain unbeaten. Definitely going to be a good one to watch!
