USA Dominated 4 X 400m At World Indoor Championships
It was an exciting weekend as athletes from around the world congregated to compete in track and field events. The World Athletics Indoor Championships was held in Nanjing, China from March 21 to March 23, 2025. During that time Team USA secured a total of 16 medals. Because USA dominated in the 4 X 400m men’s and women’s event at the World Indoor Championships. Six of those medals came from relays wins. Josh Hoey, Grant Holloway, Christopher Bailey and Claire Bryant all won individual gold medals.
In the men’s 4 X 400m the team consisted of Elija Godwin, Brian Faust, Jacory Patterson and Christopher Bailey. They cruised to victory with a time of 3:03.13 nearly two seconds faster than the Jamaican team that finished at 3:05.05. Coming in third was Hungary almost a second after Jamaica at 3:06.03. As for the American women they easily bested their competition with a first place finish. They finished with a time of 3:27.45 nearly five seconds faster than second place Poland who crossed the finish line at 3:32.05.
Australia just missed out on the silver medal finishing with a time of 3:32.65. Members of the American women’s team were Quanera Hayes, Bailey Lear, Rosey Effiong and Alexis Holmes. Holmes had competed in the women’s 400m event on Saturday and barely missed out on the gold medal. She was overtaken by Britain’s Amber Anning just before the finish line. It was a photo-finish as Anning came in at 50.60 while Holmes finished at 50.63.
In other event news Grant Holloway set a new record as he performed a three-peat in the 60m hurdles. Holloway is one of the greatest high hurdlers ever and this was his third straight indoor gold in the event. He also holds the four fastest indoor 60m hurdles times in history — 7.27, 7.29, 7.29 and 7.29. But the American men also made history in the 400m event. All three Americans swept the podium led by Chris Bailey who took first place, Brian Faust second and Jacory Patterson third. It’s the first ever men’s event sweep at the World Indoor Championships.

Shelby Houlihan won her first World medal taking the silver in the 3000m event. Her signature kick is what helped her to surge past the competition to finish at 8:38.26. Now she’s looking forward to competing in the upcoming outdoor events.
Taliyah Brooks finished third in the women’s Pentathlon, Chase Jackson finished third in women’s Shot Put and Sam Kendricks finished third in men’s Pole Vault. Claire Bryant won herself a gold medal in the women’s long jump with 6.98m jump in her world championship debut. In the men’s Shot Put, Roger Steen won Silver and Tripp Piperi took the Bronze. And Josh Hoey is the new Indoor World Champion in the 800m event. He edged out Belgium’s Elliott Crestan (1:44.81) by .04 of a second finishing at 1:44.77. Not bad for a guy who had considered giving up on the sport.
If you missed out on the Indoor Championships don’t worry. Grand Slam Track announced that Kingston, Jamaica will serve as the host city for the league’s inaugural Slam Event set for April 4-6, 2025. But in the meantime, congratulations to all the athletes of the 2024 World Indoor Championships!
