UNC’s Seth Trimble Became the Youngest Ben & Jerry’s Franchise Owner
He’ll be entering the 2025-2026 season as a senior guard for the Tar Heels’ basketball team. But there is much more than meets the eye to this young student-athlete. In fact, he took it upon himself to make his own grand announcement on social media. That’s how we found out that UNC’s Seth Trimble became the youngest Ben & Jerry’s franchise owner. On his Instagram account he posted the following information:
“In the recent months, I have been blessed with the opportunity to fulfill one of my many dreams and aspirations of entrepreneurship. I’m extremely grateful to officially be able to say that I am now an owner of the Ben & Jerry’s store on Franklin st 🐄🍦. The main goal is always the main goal, but I’m excited to stamp myself in a different way at this University. I am honored to reinvest in the community that has given so much to me. Go get y’all’s Ben & Jerry’s!”
The iconic Franklin location is in downtown Chapel Hill, NC and very close to the UNC campus. Making it a favorite spot for ice cream loving students and athletes. Now the 21-year old Trimble is the proud owner of the franchise. In the spirit of entrepreneurship, he used his NIL earnings to get the deal done. And in the process set a good example for other athletes who may have benefited from the NIL (Name Image and Likeness) program.
Many student-athletes use NIL to pursue endorsements and sponsorships to earn money. In Trimble’s case he took the money he earned and used it to buy a business. Creating future wealth and opportunities for himself and his family. While also gaining valuable entrepreneurial and business experience. That’s a great tactic that others can learn from to transform their earnings into business assets.

So how did it all come about? Trimble had a fortuitous meeting at the 2022 Final Four, where he met successful entrepreneur Antonio McBroom through his son Knox. Knox had asked for a picture with Tremble which led to a conversation with the whole family. McBroom, CEO of Primo Partners and the previous youngest owner of a Ben & Jerry’s franchise became a mentor to Trimble. And the rest as they say is history and the two continue to stay in touch.
As Trimble said, in an interview with Inside Carolina, he knows that the ball doesn’t juggle forever and that he’s been wanting to be in ownership since he was in high school. So no doubt he will continue to explore more business opportunities in the future. Congratulations to Seth Trimble on his new franchise ownership and business acumen!
