UConn Loses Back-To-Back Games for the First Time Since 2022-23 Season
What a day of basketball. It is not even March yet and there is still plenty of madness to behold. Colorado pulls off a shocking upset as they beat UConn 73-72. Elijah Malone led the Buffaloes with 16 points as UConn loses back-to-back games for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
This isn’t an outcome that UConn or the school’s fans are used to experiencing under head coach Dan Hurley recently. Tuesday’s game results are the second consecutive loss for the back-to-back champs — and the first time the Huskies have lost in consecutive games under Dan Hurley in almost two years. To put it slightly another way for emphasis, this is the first time Dan Hurley’s team has taken on back-to-back losses since Jan. 18, 2023.
Broadcaster and sports reporter, John Fanta reported on the college basketball thriller. He states,
“UPSET IN MAUI: COLORADO BEATS UCONN 73-72 IN A SHOCKER.
The Huskies have lost consecutive games for the first time since the 2022-23 season. Unbelievable.
UConn entered yesterday having gone 47-3 in its last 50 games and 37-1 in its last 38 non-conference games.
The Huskies just lost to Memphis and Colorado in 28 hours.
Well, we can conclude one thing: UConn won’t be back in the Maui Invitational.”

Crazy. So then, no doubt the Huskies are stunned. Many had the Huskies on top to emerge as victors on Tuesday. Furthermore, the Buffs came into the day ranked 82nd at KenPom.com (Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings). In line with that, the Colorado Buffaloes also were deemed as 14.5 point underdogs and yet they came back from double digits to upset the 2x defending National Champions UConn Huskies.
Days like this is why we are all reminded of why we LOVE sports. You can feel like you know how a matchup is going to go down. On paper one team may seem to be like Thanos and the other team will be annihilated with the quickness; with just a snap of the fingers. And then the tables are turned. The underdogs rise to the occasion and give us an entertaining experience, an exciting piece of basketball cinema. Yes, it is this unpredictability that makes every game a must see event.
Nonetheless, we must move on and forward. What’s next for Hurley’s Huskies? Well, UConn will face the loser of Iowa State/ Dayton in the 7th Place game tomorrow.
