UConn Freshman Champion Stephon Castle Declares For 2024 NBA Draft

It’s not easy standing out in Connecticut basketball; the whole team is stacked. Evidenced by them now winning back-to-back NCAA championships (2023, 2024). However, one freshman has managed to cut through all of the talent noise and make a name for himself. And now, he is ready to go next level. UConn’s Stephon Castle declares for the 2024 NBA Draft and has already selected agents to handle his business.

Castle should be able to hold his own in the league. He’s a defensive monster. However, it’s his offense that is in need of improvement. He struggles to put up 3’s. Yet, he is an extremely hard worker, who listens well to coaching; therefore, he possesses a very high potential to become a better player on both sides of the ball. Additionally, when you look at him overall, out of a plethora picks for this draft class; Castle definitely does seem NBA ready.

Nonetheless, confirmation of Stephon declaring for the draft came from Adrian Wojnarowski. Regarding Castle Adrian states,

“After playing an immense part in a national title run, Connecticut freshman G Stephon Castle is entering the 2024 NBA Draft, he tells ESPN. Castle has selected agents Joe Smith and Thad Foucher of Wasserman Basketball
for his representation.”

Nevertheless, what type of player can NBA teams expect to get from a guy like Castle? As mentioned, defense and DEFENSE. However, Kyle Boone of CBS Sports put together a mock draft and placed Stephon at number 8. He gives a quick explanation as to why, Boone reveals,

“Even on a loaded UConn team, Castle as a freshman has managed to stand out with his defensive intensity and length affecting teams all season. He’s still a work in progress on offense, where his confidence can come and go, but there’s a nice foundation to build on here to like Castle a lot.”

In terms of NBA Draft prospects rankings, many place Stephon Castle at number 10. He is 6 foot 6, equipped with speed and quickness. Plus, he utilizes his height and length well defensively. For this year’s season at UConn, Stephon was rated as the school’s second best defender; and averaged 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds on 47.2% shooting.
