Turnovers Caused Falcons To Fall To The Chargers In The End
The Falcons and the Chargers looked like they were evenly matched teams. Throwing the ball was working for the Chargers and running the ball was working for the Falcons. However, it was the turnovers that caused the Falcons to fall t0 the Chargers in the end. On their opening drive the Falcons used running backs Brian Robinson and Tyler Allgeier to move down the field. But the drive stalled in the red zone and the Falcons missed a 35-yard field goal attempt. Their kicker, Younghoe Koo, is dealing with a hip injury.
The Chargers fumbled the ball on the fourth play of their opening drive which the Falcons recovered. They converted the turnover into a touchdown. Following that the Chargers started their drive with a 48-yard pass from Justin Herbert to Ladd McConkey. But Herbert was sacked for a nine yard loss taking them out of the red zone. So they kicked a 45-yard field goal. The Falcons’ next drive was the beginning of their turnover nightmare. On the fourth play of the drive, Kirk Cousins threw a pass that was neatly intercepted. The Chargers took advantage and scored a 51-yard field goal. And after a Falcons’ punt they put up another score with a 34-yard field goal.
As for the Falcons they couldn’t generate much offense after their touchdown. The Chargers had effectively shut down their running and passing game. However, the Falcons defense was doing a good job keeping the Chargers out of the end zone. They had success throwing against the Falcons over the middle of the field but not on the edges. So the Chargers had the 9-7 lead at the half. In the third quarter the Falcons’ defense continued to limit the Chargers offense forcing two punts.

The Falcons scored a field goal but then Cousins committed his second turnover, being intercepted by Tarheeb Still. He ran it back for a 61-yard touchdown. Cousins’ third interception came after the Chargers had turned the ball over downs. After having moved the ball down field it was 3rd & 13 at LAC 13 when Marcus Maye got the interception. The Chargers couldn’t capitalize and had to punt. However, on the next drive Cousins fumbled the ball but Atlanta recovered it. Then it was 4th & 12 at LAC 35 and Cousins was picked off again.
The Falcons had every opportunity to win this game. But they lost 17-13 and left the door open for their division rivals to take over the top spot in the NFC South. Now people are wondering if it’s time for Michael Penix to step in, we’ll see.
